| Zero grimaced at the reploids that were instructing him on what to do. If he knew he had to take a written test to bother becoming a Hunter he probably wouldn't be here in the first place. Thankfully they'd made him do that first and now it was time to fight.
"Since no Hunters are available for a sparring session, you're just going to be fighting the simulator." One of the reploids stated over the loud speaker. "Are you ready?"
The blond nodded and changed his hand to his buster. He couldn't want to tear into the enemies they threw at him, even if they were just simulations. His fighting technique wasn't flawless, but it was impressive. He stood in the middle of the room and waited for his rank when he was finished clearing out the enemies.

| X patiently watched the new recruit effortlessly plow through the simulation. He showed a lot of promise on the battlefield, but he seemed a tad reckless. Not much strategy, he'd probably get himself killed in crossfire. Nonetheless he finished with the fastest time of all the recruits.
Now to check his...
...oh.
X mentally sweatdropped. His written score was absolutely terrible. How on earth did he even get the most basic questions wrong?
Ah, whatever. X tallied up the horrid written score and the rather impressive combat score for his final grade, then turned on the intercom. "You passed, but just barely. You have a lot of combat capability but your written score is pretty bad. You're starting as a C-Rank Hunter."
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| Zero glanced up at the room the instructors were in and grimaced. Only a C-Rank? His combat ability far surpassed any of the others he'd seen fight and yet some of them had gotten a higher rank than him. Why did a Hunter need to take a written test? The only thing that mattered was how well they could fight. Book smarts wouldn't help them on the battlefield.
"That test is a joke." He called glaring at the one way glass. "It's completely unnecessary."

| "It's required to ensure you at least know standard Hunter protocols and to give us insight to how your brain would function," explained X, tone still calm. He was known as one of the calmest A-Ranks in the Hunters, rarely yelling or losing his temper. At the same time though he often came off as too soft. With how bad Zero's written score was, there was no way he should have been C-Rank even with his superb fighting skill. Other Hunters would probably accuse X of cushioning Zero's score. Oh well.
"Nonetheless, that's your rank. You'll be promoted if you prove your skill both here in the base and out in the field."

| Zero grunted in annoyance and crossed his arms over his chest. "Very well." There was no point in arguing after all he hadn't really cared if he got in as a Hunter or not. However, since he was here he might as well stick with it. "Are you going to show me around now like all the others?" He sounded impatient even though he appeared uncaring.

| X entered the training deck, allowing Zero to see him face-to-face. It was somewhat hilarious; he was a few inches shorter than Zero, but was two ranks higher than him. He had his hands folded behind his back, and was standing straight and at attention. "Yes. I was assigned to keep an eye on you until you become fully accommodated to being a Hunter," he explained. "Keep in mind that we're not all about blowing things up. We're meant to protect peace."

| Zero wasn't expecting the reploid he'd been talking to to be shorter than he was, but that didn't prevent him from showing some respect. He dropped his hands back at his sides and stood at attention though he was still semi relaxed. "Peace and destruction go hand in hand." He said calmly looking down at X.
He doubted he'd be able to go out on any missions any time soon, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to rank up quickly. He would not have the others looking down on him. He was far better than any of the others that got a higher rank than him.

| "Sadly that's true, but we Hunters attempt to balance that scale more in favor of peace." X seemed to sadden slightly as he spoke, but he barely showed it. "If you'll follow me, we'll begin the tour so you can get a handle on everything." First stop was the main command room. Even though there was approximately a one week clearing period before Zero would be able to go on missions solo, he would need to at least know where the command room was.

He glanced around the command room wanting to see the full potential of the computers, but knowing better than to just start touching things. "How long until I can fight?" He asked distracting himself from wanting to mess with the mainframe.

| "The clearing period is usually between five days to a week," X replied, paying no mind to Zero looking at the computers. He was just like a curious rookie, it seemed. "We need to upload a copy of your information to the database, sort out what kind of missions you'll be sent on, make sure you're situated and familiar with HQ, and above all, place you into a division. I'm currently the captain of the X Division. We're...sort of like a special ops. I'll try to put a word in to get you into my division if you want."

| X stopped in his steps. "For one thing being patient," he chastised. "You also need to prove to Commander Sigma you're capable of being a good leader." He continued walking. "And for the record, writing 'Me' as the answer to question thirty is a pretty old joke." Question thirty was, of course, asking who the Hunter Commander was.

| "Unfortunately several of those rookies only got their positions because they aced the written test and at least knew what they were doing in the combat test." X shook his head slightly before showing Zero how to use the recharge pods. They were a bit different from stock pods, as they were made to both recharge and repair minor damage.

| "Being able to take a test won't help you when facing a Maverick." Zero argued before paying attention to what X was doing. The pods were interesting and he found it amazing that they had changed them to repair damage as well. "Are there pods to repair major damage?"

| X shook his head. "We haven't been able to develop a fully automated recovery system," he explained, "so for major repairs you'd have to see a Lifesaver unit." He wasn't going to admit it, but he was a tad intimidated by the emotionless, stoic Lifesavers. Mainly because they were so tall and had somewhat poor bedside skills. He always felt like they would break something if they repaired him, even though they were programmed to be extremely precise.

| The thought of having to see a Lifesaver made him flinch. He'd only had one encounter with one, but that was more than enough. "Do you have spare pods?" He asked curious if he would be allowed to tinker with them. He'd taken to studying how the repair pod was set up while he spoke. "Preferably one that doesn't have this repair system in it."
He seemed to realize where he was and stood back up at attention. "That is if that's alright." He said turning around to face X.

| X blinked at the flinch, but he couldn't exactly blame Zero for flinching. He did the same whenever anyone so much as suggested he go to a Lifesaver. He was, however, confused when Zero mentioned having a spare pod.
"We have extra parts in storage for repairing them, but no completed pods. I can ask Dr. Cain if he has an extra. Why?"

| "If you have enough parts I could just create one from scratch." Zero commented idly as he thought of what he might need. "It'll give me something to do while I wait. You said I'm stuck here for a week right?" He didn't want to tell X exactly what he planned to do, just because he wasn't sure if he could pull it off.
But if he did manage to make a recovery system he'd request to keep it for himself. Lifesavers never liked him. He was certain if he went to one they would try to get him kicked out.

Once it had powered on, he composed a message to Dr. Cain asking about a spare recovery pod. He was admittedly curious as to Zero's intention, but he kept quiet.

| While X typed on the holopad, Zero went back to messing with the pod. He'd gone into the actual programming of it from the control panel. Admittedly that probably wasn't his brightest idea since he didn't have an access code, but he wanted to know how it worked. It would help him make a stronger one.

| Zero blinked and glanced back at X before looking at the control panel again. He returned it to normal and rubbed the back of his neck. "Habits are hard to break." Normally if he wanted to see how something worked he didn't have to worry about getting in trouble. He'd have to learn to ask permission to tamper with the technology now.
"At least it was only a pod and not the mainframe." Zero admitted dropping his hands back down to his sides and sighing. "Sorry." He apologized which X would probably find surprising considering the attitude he'd had the entire time.

| X sighed a bit. "Just try to control yourself better," he cautioned. Zero would likely find it strange that X was so calm and easily waved things off, but that was how he was. Zero was new, he didn't need to get in serious trouble so soon. "You can't just go about tampering with things willy-nilly here. There's still protocols."
Next stop in the tour was the C-Class training center. It was a basic shooting range with some holographic targets. "Here's where you can go for target practice," he explained. "Unfortunately for safety purposes, a higher-ranking Hunter must be present for you to use the center."

| Zero nodded surprised X didn't reprimand him more, but he didn't question it. He didn't need to get in a whole lot of trouble when he hadn't even been there a day yet. X seemed more lenient than most of the others. Maybe that would be useful.
He grimaced when X told him he couldn't use the training center without a higher-ranking Hunter. "So I can't use any training rooms without a baby sitter present?" He asked glancing over at the blue reploid. Hopefully X would be the one following him around. He wasn't so sure he'd be able to deal with any of the others.

| "While not exactly in those words, yes." X nodded. "It's merely a safety precaution. There's far too many idiots who can't tell the butt of a gun from its barrel. How they made it in, I'll never know."
Going up one floor, they reached the B-Class training center. It was a little more sophisticated, with simple drones instead of holograms. "This is the B-Class center. Sadly as you're a C-Class, you have no access to it now without authorization from a B- or A-Class. I imagine you'll move through the ranks quickly enough to be able to use it, though."

| X blinked, then smirked. "If I did they'd be janitors and not Hunters," he jabbed back.
At Zero's complaining X couldn't hold back a snort as he tried not to laugh. "Teasing you? If you ask, I might monitor the higher-level training centers for you."
One floor up, and they were at the A-Class training center. It looked plain at first, but it was a full hologram simulator designed to give a more natural training feeling. It wasn't used often, but when it was, it showed very favorable results.

Zero half glared at X when the blue reploid snorted, but he seemed to perk up at the idea of training in the better rooms. However, he seemed more interested in the A-Class training room. "Only if you monitor this one for me." He said wanting to see how it worked as well, but he managed to stop himself.

| X smiled a bit. "Now then, let's keep going with our tour. Next stop is the records room, where all reports are stored. We need to keep records straight so we know what kind of damage Mavericks have caused." He led Zero back to the elevator. "You'll have to learn how to file the reports correctly too. While it's important to take out Mavericks, it's also very important to know what damage has been caused, so we know what needs to be repaired, and where to boost security in the event of another attack."

| "Unfortunately there's a lot of slackers as well as incompetent fools," sighed X as he sorted out another pile of papers to organize them. This pile was mostly applications for the new batch of recruits, including their basic specs. His eyes lingered on Zero's for a moment.
"...Hm. Seems you're built to use melee weaponry."

| Zero went to actually file the papers, but paused when X spoke again. "I am?" He asked going back over to look at the paper over X's shoulder. "I can't say I'm too surprised." He admitted before going back to his original task of filing the papers he had. "My buster may be my stock weapon, but it never seemed right."

| "Yeah." X held the paper up so Zero could grab it and not look over his shoulder, then returned to alphabetizing the papers. Zero's name was last so he wouldn't lose his place there. "Your specs say something about a sword, but you don't have one built in so I guess it's just an adaptability specification."

| Zero hummed in thought as he finished filing and leaned against one of the cabinets. "Are there any spare swords?" He finally asked wondering how well he would do using a sword. He'd used nothing but a buster as long as he could remember. Maybe he used a sword during the memories he couldn't access?

| "Just the practice sabers for the B-Class swordsmen," explained X. "Commander Sigma started constructing them since he uses a saber and noticed that a few other Hunters could use them, just not that great. I think I can sneak you into the B-Class centers to use one later." Since there was still a week long clearance period, Zero would need something to do.

| Zero grinned at the idea of getting to use a saber. He wanted to know just how good or bad he was with one. "Has Dr. Cain said anything?" He asked wondering if he could do that while he waited for X to sneak him into the training room. Then again there were probably still places X needed to show him.

| "Not yet," replied X, checking for replies. "Like I said, he'll get back to us by evening, hopefully. It's still somewhat early." After filing the rest of the applications, X motioned for Zero to follow him. "Next is the cafeteria. While we don't necessarily need human food to function, it's nice to have something to eat. Unfortunately the cooks kinda suck at their job so the food's not as good as it could be, but we do have a few good meals now and then."

| Zero frowned faintly when he glanced over what some of the leftovers were. "What else do we have to go see?" He asked wondering if he had enough time to eat. He was starting to get a little hungry.

| "Just the break room and offices, mainly," replied X. "We should probably set you up an office later." He escorted Zero down another hall, where several navigators and Hunters were sitting at desks, filling out paperwork or goofing off. The break room was nicely furnished, with a couple of couches, a television, and two coffee machines. There was a mini-fridge in the corner stocked with some snacks.

| "Is anyone but the cooks allowed to use the kitchen?" Zero asked when they got into the break room. It was definitely nice in there and even the offices seemed decent. Though he was surprised to see so many reploids goofing off. He didn't bother saying anything though. It wasn't his place.
If it was he'd be tearing into them though.

| "Unless proper permission is given, yeah," replied X as he looked in the fridge for something. "Want something to eat?" he offered. There wasn't much, mainly just lunch meats for sandwiches, but it was better than most of the stuff in the cafeteria. He made himself a ham and salami sandwich with provolone cheese.
"After we eat, I'll double-check with Dr. Cain, and if we don't have a message we'll go to the training center."

| "I need more than just a sandwich." Zero admitted not having eaten in the past few days. He only recharged a little bit last night before coming to the base. "Can you give me permission?" He questioned more interested in an entire meal than just a sandwich. If not he'd manage somehow.

| Zero followed X to the cafeteria glancing at a few of the other reploids that were chatting in the hallway. It seemed X's leniency was paying off for him. Either that or the blue reploid was far too nice for his own good. Either way he couldn't complain too much, at least he would be able to get some decent food.

| X led Zero into the kitchen; the cooks didn't protest, since X was one of the few who, while he upholded rules, did let them skirt by if they screwed something up. "There's the pantry, fridge, ovens and stoves," he explained, pointing to everything. "Pots and pans are hanging up, so take what you need. And you better make me something."
