| Seeing that his opponent wasn't going to attack, the black reploid charged again. This time, he went for a side hit. If he didn't rebound like last time, Axl would swipe at Zero's legs with one of his own in an attempt to trip him. He wasn't an expert at wielding a bladed weapon, but he wasn't a novice either.

| Zero leapt to the side and rolled on his shoulder before ending up back on his feet again behind Axl. He slashed at the prototypes back forgetting to check his power. He somewhat hoped the attack didn't land, but he didn't have time to stop it either. This would be a real chance for Axl to show himself.

| A flash of panic raced through the redhead at the incoming strike. Zero wasn't holding back on that one. As quickly as he could, he extended his stabilizer blades and barely managed to catch the blade from hitting his back. Flipping the scythe over his head, he aimed to hit Zero's forearms with the pole to get him to back off. That was just too close for comfort.

| Zero jumped back away from Axl and heaved a sigh. He never really was good with just training with his sword. He stayed in a semi relaxed stance and looked at the prototype. "You still want to keep going?" He asked wondering if he'd scared Axl off with his last attack. In a way he hoped he did, and didn't. He didn't want to actually hurt the red head, but he didn't want to just stop training either. However, Axl's safety was priority, and he'd allow the prototype to choose what he wished to do. He'd need to be more on guard than usual, just to keep from actually hurting Axl.

| Axl blushed a bit as he turned to face the blonde. Zero's attack had scared him a bit, but he wasn't sure why. He shook his head and was about to say he was fine enough to continue, but a message popped up in his peripheral.
The strike had jogged something in his memory files and his left eye grayed to view it. A crow-style reploid attacking him much like Zero had, but the look in the crow's eyes said he completely meant to kill the boy. Then the file jumped to the reploid exploding with a smile and Axl pointing his pistols at him.
The scythe dropped from the boy's hands as he dropped to his knees, holding his head and shaking. He knew that reploid, had been friends with him. So why did they fight? Why did he kill him? Was he a murderer? Was that one of the things X refused to tell him?

| Zero immediately went over to Axl when the red head had fallen to his knees. "Are you alright?" He asked concerned. The prototype looked as if he'd just seen something horrible. He wondered if it were a memory file. If memories were unlocked out of order then it could cause a great deal of confusion. He kneeled next to Axl on one knee and waited for the prototype to respond.

| The boy was terrified enough that a couple of tears slid down his cheeks. He couldn't stop shaking at the realization the memory gave him. Why did X not tell him?
"I killed him." he whispered. "He was my friend and I killed him. I murdered my friend in cold blood. Why did I do it?"
He looked at the blonde with unshed tears. "Am I a murderer?" he asked, terrified.

| It took Zero a moment to realize just who Axl was talking about. However he soon remembered considering the prototype was in about the exact same shape after the fight. "You're not a murderer Axl." He reassured as best he could. That was the last thing the red head needed to believe. "He.. went Maverick. Unfortunately, you were the one to have to take him on. I can't remember if you requested to or not." He stated while pushing his hair back. It seemed X had left out a few things.

| "Ma-maverick?" He questioned in confusion. The term tugged at something, but it was just out of reach, like most of his other memories. Axl lowered his arms and rested them on his knees.
"Are you saying...that crow reploid did something bad and I had to kill him? But he was smiling when he died. Was that a good thing? Was he happy to die? Happy to know I killed him?" He was so confused right now that he couldn't make heads or tails of the things he did know.

| Zero was silent for a moment to think about what he was going to say. "Basically," He began before looking at Axl again. "He was probably smiling because you were the one to fight him." He stated knowing how that felt from his experience with fighting X. He hated losing to anyone but the blue reploid. For some reason it always made him fight that much harder when it wasn't X.

| Zero heaved a sigh and thought for a moment. He really didn't know how he could explain the concept to Axl and it make sense. "Well, if you went crazy would you want someone you once knew very well or someone you didn't know at all?" He asked hoping he could give an explanation this way. It was the only other way he could think of to try and explain it to the prototype. It was a hard concept unless you knew what it was like, like the blond did.

| Axl looked at the ground as he turned the question around in his head. If he went crazy, or 'Maverick' as Zero had mentioned earlier, then he would want to be stopped regardless of who did the job. But then again...
"He was happy because he knew I was strong enough to stop him? That I could protect people from the things that could have happened in his insane state?" the younger questioned. He wasn't sure if that was close or not, but it was the only reason that came to mind.

| Zero nodded slightly. "That's probably most of the reason, if not all of it. He was probably happy that you were strong enough to protect yourself, and everyone else you cared about." He said hoping that Axl understood a little better at least. Or knew that he wasn't a murderer that killed his friend just for the enjoyment of it. That was what the blond was supposed to be, so he knew that the prototype definitely was not that.

| The boy chewed his lip as he rolled the new information around in his head. What Zero said made sense. The crow reploid had seemed older than him, so more than likely he had been a tutor of some kind to Axl. But he still didn't have a name and it was just that one memory, so he was still a little iffy about it.
Until he regained more of his memories, the redhead was probably going to stay concerned about who he had been, what he had done before he had sealed himself away. "There were more than just him, wasn't there?" he asked, still gnawing on his bottom lip. "More...Mavericks?"

| Zero nodded and sat down fully on the ground. "I don't think you fought as many as X and I did, but you fought quite a few." He said not remembering the exact count of how many Mavericks Axl had gone after on his own. He knew it wasn't a whole lot, but it was more than enough to mess with the red head sometimes.
Suddenly Zero got an idea. "Would it help if you saw the Mavericks?" He asked while looking at Axl. He could pull a picture from his memory and display it for the prototype to see. He wasn't so sure it would help, but it would probably be better than nothing.

| The copy reploid paused as he thought about the offer. There must have been a reason why X never told him about the Mavericks, but with the sporadic his memories were returning, it was probably best to be prepared.
"I believe it would be a good idea. X and I are still going through the new DNA data in my copy chip, so maybe some of my new forms had become Mavericks. If I know that they were, then I can be more cautious when I utilize their forms."

| Zero pulled up a holo screen and quickly navigated through his systems to his memory files. Although he was certain that Axl couldn't read a thing on the screen, he didn't need to. It made him wonder if there was a program within his systems that allowed him to read the jumbled mess of symbols that was his systems. He would look into that later.
"These will be from when you first joined us at the base." He said before looking at Axl again. He had managed to find the files of the Mavericks that were around when the red head was as well. "Are you ready?" He asked not wanting to start if the prototype wasn't prepared.

| Axl dismissed his weaponry and scooted closer to the blonde, sitting on his knees with his hands on his lap. He wasn't sure how he'd react with the Mavericks Zero was about to show him, but he wasn't going to back down now.

| Zero nodded and pulled up a picture of a Maverick that looked like a mixture between a boar and a motorcycle. "This was Ride Boarski. He had a very unstable temper and would easily turn on you if you misspoke even once." He said trying to describe the Maverick as best he could. He wasn't sure how much Axl knew about the Mavericks so he would try to give the red head a brief description of each if he could.

| Zero blinked when Axl named off the Mavericks weapons. "Er, that's right." He said before pulling up a new one. He could tell that the red head had no idea who Ride Boarski was so there was no reason to dwell on it. Besides Axl could just tell him to wait. He pulled up the next Maverick who was rather large.
He cringed slightly upon seeing who it was. He wasn't pulling them up manually, his systems pulled pictures from the specified time frame. "This is Tornado Tonion. I.. I can't really say anything about him." He stated not knowing how to describe the strange Maverick. "Although you seemed to be friends with him. Or at least didn't hate each other." He added remembering how the strange reploid had spoken to Axl.

| Zero chuckled when Axl said Tonion looked like a pumpkin. "He was rather.. strange as well." He added. He never thought a reploid would act like that, but then again he'd been surprised before.
The next picture came up of an Anteater type reploid. "This was Snipe Anteater. Unfortunately, I don't really know a whole lot about him. Honestly, I don't think anyone did." He stated not knowing the personality of the Maverick. Snipe Anteater seemed to just enjoy playing mind games with everyone. Even those that were in Red Alert.

| Axl blinked in surprise as an analysis file on the Maverick popped up in his systems, Left eye greying, he read it out to the blonde. "He was a bit scientific in his own right, but he had more of a... psychological approach to things. Liked to study people's reactions to their likes and dislikes and learned to read emotions easily. Also had this uncanny way of...figuring out things that not even the person knew about themselves. Utilized seeker missiles and exploding ants."
Then a queued memory file made itself known. Viewing that too, the boy pouted, "Apparently, he tested my stealth abilities with his proximity ants while also having me dodge missiles at the same time. How was that stealth training?"

| Zero was a little surprised that Axl had gained that information, but it made sense considering his experience with the Maverick. Although when the red head talked about having to dodge missiles and those ants he shook his head. "It isn't. I think he was just using you as entertainment." He stated while pressing a button to pull up another picture.
The next picture that came up was a gorilla type reploid with a stone sword and shield. His brow furrowed when the picture came up. What the Maverick had said to him he found a little strange now thinking about it, but he pushed that away. "This was Soldier Stonekong. He seemed more like a fighter than anything, and loyal to whatever he followed." He stated remembering that Stonekong actually knew that he was being used, but still following through with things anyway.

| A stab of guilt and sadness washed over the boy as he looked at the gorilla reploid's stern features. It wasn't always like that. How he knew? Probably like he did the others: he had know them at one point in his life.
"An honorable swordsman, like you, Zero. He once said that a battle with you was the one thing he truly desired before he died. He was really nice and looked out for me during the missions we were on together."
Axl paused as a thought occurred to him. "The information and memories I have on these guys, it's like I personally knew them, like they were real close friends or maybe family-like. Why is that?"

| Zero always hated to hear that. That he was the last person someone wanted to fight before they were killed. Although he was a combat reploid, that wasn't always the greatest thing to hear. It made him feel like the grim reaper sometimes. "I could tell." was all he said to give away that he had been the one to fight Stonekong.
"Because in a way, you were a large family. The leader, Red, found you and took you in. I don't know how long you were with them before you decided to run away. You ran because you knew what they were doing wasn't right." Zero explained to the best of his ability, which probably wasn't much. Even though he'd been the one to find Axl, the prototype had talked to X more. He pulled up a picture of Red on the holo screen.

| Axl froze at the image. The man before him was familiar, so very familiar. This was the very first person he saw when he woke up.
"The scythe was his." he whispered. It wasn't a question, it was a statement. The black reploid knew Red was where he got the scythe from.
He covered his eyes as another memory flashed and phantom emotions accompanied them. "They started changing after a mission Red and I took. To the energy plant. We separated to get our tasks done quicker. It was the first time Red had let me be on my own during a mission. He had this odd look when we had met back up, but at the time I didn't think anything of it. Was that a bad thing?"

| Zero had forgotten that Red had wielded a scythe. It made sense now as to why Axl had it. He listened to the red head talk and wait a moment before speaking. "You couldn't have known what had happened. That's probably when he met Sigma." He said with a bit of a sigh. I couldn't remember specific details about that time period, but he could remember that Sigma had used Red Alert to do what he wanted.

| Zero clicked for it to show another image. The next one was a blue fish like reploid. "This was Splash Warfly. I can't tell you much about his personality, but I can tell you that you two didn't get along very well. If at all." He said remembering how the two acted with each other before the fight. Warfly was probably one of the few that didn't like Axl from the beginning. He didn't know why that was though. Maybe their personalities clashed.

| "Stick-fish." Axl said without thinking. He giggled when he realized what came out of his mouth. "I think that was my nickname for him. Cause he's so skinny. His geysers and naginata attacks were the only dangerous weapons he had when he was in-land. So he stuck to the missions near water."

| Zero laughed a bit when he heard the nickname Axl had given Warfly. He wished he would've known that then. It probably would've pissed the reploid off more. He clicked to a different picture. They were almost all the way through each of the Mavericks they'd killed. The next picture was of a dog like reploid. "This was Flame Hyenard. I don't really know much about him. He was already starting to become Maverick when we got to him. He believed we were the cause of his pain. It's a sign of early to middle stages of being Maverick." He said knowing that well himself.

| The boy's first reaction was a loud groan, then a facepalm. "His giant mechaniloid and his triplicate ability were so annoying. And his battle cry made me want to sabotage my own audio receptors. It didn't start for a while after I first met him, but Kami-sama, when he started screaming 'Burn burn burn it to the ground' every time he trained or fought someone..." He didn't continue, but his irritation was plain as day on his face.

| "I know what you mean." Zero grumbled remember how he wanted to go Maverick just to get rid of Hyenard quicker. As terrible as that was, the hyena was the most annoying Maverick he'd ever fought. Even more so than Sigma, and he didn't even think that was possible.
He clicked to the next one and a kangaroo type reploid. "This was Vanishing Gungaroo. The only thing I really know is that he doesn't like being called a kid." He said remembering how worked up the small reploid became if called a kid or treated like one. As far as he could remember they all treated the little reploid like a child.

| Zero blinked at that last statement. He looked somewhat.. shocked. However he didn't say anything on the subject and switched to the last picture. It was a bird reploid. The one Axl had been worried about killing earlier. "This was Wind Crowrang. You would know more about him than me." He said not really wanting to show Axl this particular one, but he'd already seen himself killing Crowrang anyway so there was no point in hiding it. Maybe it would unlock some more memories.

| The blonde's shocked expression peaked the boy's curiosity, but he let it slid as the crow reploid he saw earlier popped up. He tensed up, flashing back to the memory he had of killing him before another came up and his eyes softened into a misty, sad gaze. "He didn't want to hurt me at all. He always wanted me to be happy, doing everything he could to make it so. My fascination of you and X baffled him and he said if he ever turned Maverick that he would have wanted either me or you take him out, because he wanted to go down fighting, like the free bird he was."
The redhead's right hand gripped his left elbow in a nervous gesture. "It upset him that I wasn't coming back, that I refuse to return to them like Red wanted, but he respected my decision, happy that I wouldn't change my beliefs to conform to another's. I think my battle with him was the hardest out of all eight of them, because, next to Tonion, Crowrang was always there for me when I needed someone to talk to or help me with something that I didn't want to bug Red with. I did the right thing, didn't I? Did I give him the freedom he wanted?"

| Zero listened to Axl speak and noticed how sad the red head had become. "I think you did do the right thing Axl," He began wanting to reassure the prototype, "When you go Maverick you always want someone to get rid of you before you hurt too many people. At least, that's probably the last thought most have before the virus completely takes over." He said while scratching his head. That was about as close as he could come to describing that feeling. He had always wanted X to take care of him before things got too out of hand, even if that meant him dying. It was better that losing a whole lot of other lives.

| Zero pushed his bangs back and thought for a moment. He wasn't sure if Axl knew that he carried the virus or not, after all, the red head had come around after everyone had found out. "Well I don't know how it was created, but it was created by Dr. Wily. He was also my creator. I was the very first Maverick to exist." He explained as best he could. "My memories are kind of spotty in places, but I think the first high class reploid it infected was Commander Sigma." He said not really remembering all those he'd infected. Some had become infected by second hand exposure.

The virus took a while to fully awaken so I had already been around the Hunters for a while. I actually had a reason to fight the virus. Or try my best to anyway." He trailed of slightly remembering the Eurasia incident. He had failed to destroy the colony with the shuttle and the virus had been let out. He had fought X as well. He had obviously been drawn into his thoughts.
