The enemy exploded upon contact with the shot. Everything was meant to be completely realistic. If X tried to run on the sand, he'd notice a difference in the amount of effort it took. The enemies actually responded realistically to what would happen if they actually got hit with the attack. "One target eliminated. Four to go." Zero said not bothering to get into a ready stance. C-Class enemies were easy to dispatch even when he wasn't focusing. "There will be five enemies for each rank. When all five are killed I'll bump the rank up." He said watching with interest at how easily X dispatched something of his own rank.

He could tell for a fact that X was in the wrong Hunter class. Two upgrades and he took out an equal ranked Hunter? That definitely wasn't possible if the blue reploid was actually C-Class. He was right about X. He should be a B or A-Class Hunter. Zero would bet money on A-Class though.

"Right!" said X with a nod. He wondered why Zero set the enemy level at a lower setting than what X was capable of. Maybe he was gauging his strength?

X noticed two more enemies coming closer and decided to see if the new upgrade actually worked. He charged a shot, noting with some interest that not only did it require almost no effort, but it took hardly any time now--less than five seconds, it seemed. X fired the shot at one of the enemies, skidding backwards on the sand from the force of the blast, which was now stronger than before. The blast took out the first enemy, and the aftershock dispatched the second.

"No enemies remaining. Increasing enemy level." Zero said being sure to keep X up to date, even if it was redundant. Although he was certain that X had no idea how the last two enemies had been eliminated. "Remaining two enemies destroyed by stray shots from allies." He stated letting X know what had happened. He pushed the level up to B-Class enemies. This is where things would get interesting. "Try to use fully charged shots." He suggested, wanting X get used to using the more powerful blasts.

One of the enemies came up from out of the water and had snuck up behind X, damaging the blond somewhat badly. He grunted and shot the enemy quickly before falling onto one of his knees. He was sparking rather badly. "Keep training X. There's four left on this level." He said staying in a crouched position on the sand. The program wouldn't shut off until all preset level's were cleared. That's how it gauged the strength of each Hunter.

X blinked in mild confusion when Zero told him how the last two enemies were destroyed, but realized that the AI settings for the simulation were apparently quite accurate. He kept his guard up when Zero stated that the levels would increase, watching his surroundings closely for any signs of enemy movement.

When he heard Zero grunt in pain, he whirled around, noticing that the blonde was injured. He stood right next to Zero to stand guard over him so the simulation couldn't harm him anymore, then began to charge another shot. A new enemy charged forward much faster than the others; X fired the shot at it, damaging it a good deal but not dispatching it with one hit. Another uncharged shot did the job, piercing through it and destroying it. Three left, he counted off in his mind.

Zero smirked when the enemy was still easily dispatched by X. He was pretending to be badly damaged just to see how well X would fight in this situation. The hologram assisted with the 'sparking' and he managed to keep a straight face whenever X looked at him. Although he didn't like just sitting there doing nothing, he could force himself to do it for a little while.

Two more enemies charged at the pair on the beach. The third was still further away. A sniper. Zero gritted his teeth before deciding to dispatch that certain enemy himself. X was training on a level he wasn't even aware of, and he didn't need the blue reploid getting damaged that badly. He fired off a charged shot eliminating the sniper in the background and falling onto his back from the force. It was easy to pretend he was injured. He just hoped X didn't notice it was a sniper in the background. Snipers were only in B-Class and up.

When Zero collapsed onto his back, X immediately thought the damage was very serious and he'd been knocked unconscious. He heard a charged shot; did something else attack Zero while X was charging his own Buster?

X fired a shot at the two enemies that were closing in on them. He missed, but it kicked up some sand and blinded the enemies for a moment. X knew he had to get Zero out of the line of fire so he wouldn't get hurt any further; he'd take him to the infirmary when the simulation ended. The blue Reploid carefully picked Zero up and slung him over his shoulder, carrying him with his normal arm and firing his Buster at the enemies, charging it and firing between them; they were close enough that it would hit them both, and the shockwave did plenty of damage.

As a natural reaction Zero wanted to hit X for picking him up, but managed to ignore the urge and allowed X to carry him where ever the reploid planned to go. He had no doubt as to why the rookies hated it when he did this, but it was necessary whenever he did. Just like X thought it was necessary now. He had a feeling the blue reploid would probably be angry at him after the training was over, but it was needed to fully test X's skills. He wanted to see the green eyed reploid as a commander.

The two enemies were torn in half by the shot and fell against each other causing them to explode when certain wires crossed. He allowed the holo room to let X know that it was going to the next level. He would just stop it before it said just what level they were on.

All targets eliminated. Final level initiated, level ---

Zero cut it off before the room could say the actual level. He should've been paying more attention and cut it off a little sooner. Now X would probably be suspicious.

X blinked naively when the voice suddenly cut off before explaining the level. At first he guessed that it was just a minor malfunction, but then something confused him.

It said "Final level initiated," but X had only done three levels: rookie, C-Class, and he just finished B-Class...right?

Unless...

There was a rather loud roar coming from the water as a single enemy rose up from the water: a rather large, shark-like Mechaniloid. X froze. There was absolutely NO way this was an A-Rank enemy. This was a Maverick that Commander Sigma dispatched a month ago. This was an S-Class enemy, D-Rex.

And Zero said there were five of these?!

All X could do was charge his Buster and fire it into the creature's maw.

((Going by the D-Rex's Command Mission appearance BTW.))

Zero rubbed his face. Of course the room would malfunction. Well, X would definitely get a workout now. Zero wasn't sure if X could take on five D-Rex's at once. Even he would have some trouble with that. But he would let the blue reploid fight as best he could. He'd intervene before X go too damaged. The somewhat big mechaniloids tended to attack in packs. At least the room liked to portray that they did. The remaining four surrounded X from a distance. They were waiting. Apparently the one that had come out of the water was the leader of the group.

At least if X made it through this there would be no doubt in Zero's mind that the blue reploid should be an S-Class Hunter. However the time it took to take them all down would determine if he were an S or A-Class. Zero knew that he'd probably get in trouble for doing such a thing, but it was worth it. Everyone overlooked X, except for him.

X was caught off-guard when the other four D-Rexes surrounded him, jaws clamping threateningly. He looked between the four, borderline frantic. Zero was incapacitated, the training room seemed to be malfunctioning, and X was in danger.

Still, he had to at least prove himself. He wouldn't give up just because he was surrounded by S-Class opponents. Besides, if he was injured, Zero was a sitting duck.

X noticed something slightly different between the four surrounding him and the one that emerged from the water: the first one had a mark on the top of its head. It was different than the others; was it a leader of sorts?

No better time to test than now. X charged another shot and fired it at the first D-Rex.

The D-Rex snarled and glared at X. Although it was obvious his attack had done quite a bit of damage, it wasn't enough to kill it. The mechaniloid jumped out of the water and closer to X. It planned to either attack, or order the others to attack. It was hard to tell which. Regardless, X was in trouble if he didn't think of something to do soon.

Zero knew that the easiest way to get the simulation to end was to kill the leader mechaniloid. If you wanted to go about it the hard way you could always avoid the leader and go after the others. However since X was going after the first D-Rex that appeared he knew that the blue reploid had an idea of what to do. Or at least noticed the slight difference between the first mechaniloid and the others.

X saw smoke coming out of the D-Rex's mouth when he shot it, which was a dead giveaway that he damaged it quite a bit. Another charged shot should do the trick, and it didn't seem like the others were attacking him. This was almost TOO easy...

Regardless, X aimed his Buster at the D-Rex and charged another shot. Before he could fire it, however, the D-Rex to his left fired the turrets on its underside, scoring a direct hit to his side. X slumped over to the side with a groan, landing hard on his knee. The shot was still charged, waiting to be fired.

He fired directly at the D-Rex he was targeting, hoping it would connect.

Before the attack connected the D-Rex let out a loud roar. It seemed it was a last order to attack the two reploids in front of them. The leader D-Rex exploded seconds afterwards, but it was too late. The other D-Rex's had already gotten their order and they followed it. Two attempted to 'pounce' on X while the other two used the turrets on their underside to shoot at the blue reploid.

The two that had gotten closer tried to swipe at X with their claws. Zero quickly dispatched one with a well placed shot, however he couldn't do anything about the other. One of the turrets focused on him instead and he used his arms to try and defend himself as best he could while he charged up another shot. Yeah, X would definitely be mad at him. At least he was rather convinced the green eyed reploid would be.

X was still trying to recover from being shot in the side, and was unable to react fast enough to evade some of the attacks. The turret shot caught him in the chest and pierced through his armor, thankfully missing his core, and the claws raked against his Buster as he used it to defend himself.

They had to get away NOW.

X managed to force himself to his feet. Firing another charged shot into the maw of one of the D-Rexes, he charged between them, ducking to evade them and making a beeline for a small cove with waist-deep water that he could hide in to recover.

Zero was shot through his buster, shoulder, and chest. The assault caused his buster to go offline. He was left with no weapon. He gritted his teeth before figuring out what to do. He jumped on one of the D-Rex's back and the other two shot at it with their turrets. Even though they were S-Rank enemies, they weren't always very smart. They killed the one he'd jumped on leaving only two remaining.

He dashed at one of the other two and jammed his shoulder into the mechaniloids 'stomach' sending it backwards. He had to wrestle with the other, he had no choice but to use hand to hand combat, which wasn't always ideal when dealing with a mechaniloid, but it didn't matter. He managed to pull the turret off and sent a shock of energy through it causing it to fire. It incapacitated the mechaniloid, but didn't kill it outright. The other was still relatively fine however.

X slid to a halt, his feet digging into the sand when he realized Zero was still fairly unharmed and able to move. Had he been able to move all this time? Was X carrying him for nothing?

Whatever. He'd ask about it later after they were repaired. X charged his Buster and shot at the D-Rex Zero incapacitated, destroying it with one hit. The blue Reploid ran toward Zero to see if he was alright and in need of medical attention.

At that moment, the last D-Rex--the one that was mainly unharmed--lunged toward X. Its jaws clamped down hard on his midsection, piercing through and nearly tearing him in half. X coughed up some kind of internal fluids--he wasn't sure exactly what it was. Before he would let the D-Rex best him, however, he jammed his Buster into its maw and fired a charged shot, blasting a hole through its head.

The blue Reploid went completely limp as his systems went offline.

Zero cursed and transferred them both to the medical bay as quickly as he could once the holo room went offline. Even though he was rather damaged himself he worked as quickly as he could to help X. He managed to patch up all the leaks and replace the missing fluids before moving on to the other damaged sections. It took him a few hours, but he finally fixed X up completely. He wasn't sure that anyone else could repair X, and he honestly wouldn't trust anyone to. He sent a surge of energy through the blue reploids systems to bring him back online again. He wasn't sure if it would work, but he hoped it would.

Before he could even see if his repairs were good enough he collapsed against the wall. It appeared that one of the energy pellets had created a crack in his core. He'd been slowly leaking energy the entire time. Even though he had been at nearly the max of 200%, a few hours of somewhat frantically trying to repair X along with using energy for the buster shots had completely drained him. He looked terrible. He was partially covered in oil and coolants, had quite a few holes in his abdomen, and his buster hand was sparking badly for real.

No doubt the entire medical bay was probably completely confused as to how Zero was so injured, why he was carrying a half-dead C-Class Hunter, and how the C-Class Hunter was injured that badly, and no doubt X's eyes, blank and staring, unsettled more than one of them. X remained completely unresponsive while Zero repaired him, his systems having locked to prevent any programs from being damaged due to the forced shutdown. He didn't even stir when Zero sent a surge of energy through him.

A nearby medical Reploid walked over to Zero, noticing how terribly injured the A-Class was, and carefully escorted him to another room to repair him. She completely ignored X, as usual. C-Class Hunters were a dime a dozen and he was no exception. In fact, he was practically nonexistent.

Zero shoved the medical reploid away with a scowl and forced himself to stay awake. "Are you blind?! Can you not see how injured he is?! He's still offline!" He practically growled not bothering to hide his anger. He really hated the people he worked with. They didn't care for each other at all. That was the real reason he treated everyone so callously, because they treated each other the same way. They didn't even acknowledge anyones existence unless they were an A or S-Class.

"You better get away from me unless you're going to help." Zero half threatened before managing to force himself back over to the pod he'd put X in and pulling up the controls. His knee joints were threatening to give out just from the lack of energy. He ran an extensive diagnostic on the blue reploid. What was wrong? He rubbed his face. He knew he shouldn't have pushed so hard.

The medical Reploid hesitated. "W-with all due respect, sir," she stammered, "your condition is of higher priority than his. We have been trained to tend to the higher ranking Hunters first."

In a way it seemed they were punishing X for his incompetence. A C-Class Hunter should never be this injured unless they did something genuinely stupid. X did do something stupid--he let his guard down while there was still one enemy online and wound up paying dearly.

The results of Zero's scans came up on the monitor. Nearly all of the blue Reploid's systems were offline, his core pulses were extremely faint and almost nonexistent, and his programming was locked. They would have to be unlocked before anything could be done to help him.

His eyes, still staring and empty, started to turn grey as his core pulses started to weaken further.

Zero turned on the medical reploid. He was grimacing. "Then I order you to help him." His voice was low. It was a hint to do what he said. That was something everyone had learned. He didn't have the capabilities to help X nor a coherent enough thought process to do so. He might've been able to help X more, but he was barely awake. He was forced to lean against the wall for support.

Zero pushed the holo screen over to the medical reploid as a sign to get working. If she told him that she couldn't help X he might just snap. He'd been dealing with them for far too long to hear that right now. He tried to troubleshoot how to get X's programming unlocked again in his mind just in case the medic didn't know how to help X. He'd come up with one way, but he had a feeling the blue reploids protocols wouldn't like it too much. He wasn't even sure if he could do what he'd come up with.

The medical Reploid cringed at Zero's tone. "Y-yes, sir..." she said meekly when he spoke. Upon examining the holo screen, however, she found that there was a problem. "...I...I can't repair him. His systems are too complex...a-and his programming is locked... I can't do anything unless someone can unlock it, and I'm not qualified to do that..."

X's eyes had gotten dimmer. Whatever Zero had planned, he might as well try it.

Zero rubbed his face before taking the holo screen back. He tried his best to hack his way back into X's programming.

Command: Override Program Lock
Rejected
Switch to stand by mode
Rejected
Power up core
Rejected

Zero was more than ready to put his head through the wall, but he couldn't give up. He remembered a strange string of numbers on X's schematics, but didn't have time to go search for them. Every second mattered. He would just have to try and remember it from the one time he glanced at it.

Access Code: 36286754448
Model? _X_
Accepted.
Unlocking Programming
Powering on core
Rerouting energy from pod to core
Systems check initiated
Processing...
Online.
All systems connected.

36286754448 Model X in standby mode until further notice.

Zero sighed in relief before collapsing against the wall and sliding down it. Although he wasn't exactly sure what the numbers were, he knew that X should be okay now. He hoped.

The color started to come back to X's eyes, which closed as he entered standby mode. His core was now running at its normal levels, so it seemed he would be alright. Zero did a fantastic job repairing him--again. It would probably be a few hours before he woke up.

After running a diagnostic scan on X to make sure he was okay, the medical Reploid turned her attention to Zero. She carefully helped him over to a recharge pod and hooked him up, then set to work repairing him. All the while, some other medical Reploids were mumbling in hushed tones about how stupid and incompetent X was and that they should have just left him alone to work on Zero.

Unfortunately for those that were mumbling to each other about X, Zero heard them. He made a mental reminder about who to fire when he awoke. He never let the medical reploids take full control when repairing him. He had a safeguard that prevented that. He would never trust all of his systems to the medical staff, even if they couldn't read half of it.

It took about two hours for him to wake up without feeling terrible. After that he forced himself up and ran a quick check on his systems, and X's again to make sure that everything was okay. The file popped up in his head of who to fire. He would've forgotten if he hadn't made an alert. He'd deal with it after checking himself and X.

X slowly started to come out of standby mode after Zero ran a scan on him. A few small popup messages alerted him to the repairs made, as well as the fact that his programming had to be hacked to get anything done.

Then came the feeling of exhaustion. Even though X had been recharging this whole time, and both his core energy and reserve energy were fully replenished, he still felt completely drained. He wasn't sure if it was just from his injuries or what.

After a few more moments, X finally noticed Zero next to his recharge pod. Zero looked like he was in perfect condition, which was more than could be said for X, who was sent to the med. bay twice in one day.

"I'm sorry, sir..." he apologized. It had become something of a stock phrase for him now. "I was reckless and incompetent. I let my guard down and was damaged."

"It's my fault for pushing you too hard. Good job on taking down those S-Rank enemies. If you'll excuse me for a moment." Zero said not giving X time to respond before turning away and talking on his communicator. He called a few medic reploids to the outside of the med bay. He made sure to turn the communicator off before chewing them out although he could still partially be heard by X. However the only thing the blue reploid would be able to actually understand was a loud 'You're fired! Now get out!' before Zero came back into the room.

Although Zero was fully repaired he still felt exhausted mentally. Unfortunately they couldn't just fix that. He went back over to X's pod and sat in a chair next to it. He rubbed his face and shook his head before looking at the blue reploid again. The diagnostics looked good. His core was fully charged and he was awake. That was always a good sign.

X listened in silence and confusion as he picked out bits and pieces of what Zero was saying, which was something along the lines of reprimanding the medics for not doing their jobs properly and leaving an injured man because he was a low-ranked Hunter. That last part--Zero firing them--was crystal clear, even with X's still malfunctioning audio receptors.

When Zero came back in and sat down beside X, the blue Reploid couldn't help but wonder one thing. "...Sir?" he began hesitantly. "...Why did you lie about the training simulation?" Was he merely testing him? Or was it something different?

Zero focused on X when the blue reploid spoke, noticing that he had started to space out. He really was exhausted if he was doing that. "Most Hunters who have the skill but not the confidence tend to do better if they think they're on a lower level. I only intended to go to A-Rank enemies but the room seemed to malfunction." He said a little surprised that X wasn't mad. Or at least the blue reploid didn't seem mad. "Also I submitted your total time to the higher ups for promotion consideration." He might as well tell X everything. The downed reploid would know sooner or later anyway.

Zero knew that X could get a promotion no problem, however he wasn't sure if it would be one or two Class changes. He could argue all day long with the higher ups about X's abilities and capabilities as a Hunter. He had a feeling he'd have to if he was going to get X as an A-Class Hunter.

X listened carefully to Zero's explanation, finally understanding why he lied to X. He was trying to see what X was capable of on the battlefield.

The realization that X had taken out not only C-Class, B-Class, and A-Class enemies, but even an S-Class enemy, finally hit. X didn't like to fight, but it seemed he really did have potential.

And it was all thanks to Zero, the only Hunter to ever pay him any mind. Zero made upgrades for him, trained him, and now even tested him to see if he could be promoted...

X smiled. "Thank you, sir..." he said, genuinely grateful. For probably the first time since he became a Hunter, he wasn't invisible to the world.

Zero nodded. "Of course." His communicator went off and he stood up and left the room to answer it. He wasn't sure if it was a private conversation or not. He was outside for a few minutes. He was speaking in a low somewhat hushed tone that way no one would hear him. He came back in a few moments later, a smile on his face.

"Congratulations X. We'll be setting up your office so that everything will be done when you're fully repaired." Zero stated. He obviously wasn't one to state directly what happened, but only B-Class Hunters and up got their own office. X had been promoted. Even though he'd argued that X could be an A-Class Hunter, it seemed the higher ups didn't want to hear it. Regardless, it was good.

X had started to go back into sleep mode to rest when Zero left the room, but when he came back in he snapped back to attention, taking note of the smile on Zero's face. Congratulations? Office?

Wait...

"I-I was promoted?!" asked X excitedly, bolting upright. Zero really did it. He actually managed to get the blue Reploid promoted. "Th-thank you so much, sir!" X really couldn't express how excited he was. He owed so much to Zero now.

Zero saluted X and continued to smile because of how excited the blue reploid had become still not bothering to say it outright. X had caught on anyway so there was no reason to. He relaxed, but stayed in an attention like stance with his hands clasped behind his back. He tended to stand like that out of habit than anything else. "Where would you like your office to be? I'll let you choose." He said noticing awake and aware X seemed to be now.

Zero allowing X to choose where he wanted his office to be practically allowed the shorter reploid to pick anywhere in the base. Everyone else feared Zero for the most part and wouldn't bother arguing with the blond for fear of any kind of retaliation.

X pushed himself out of the recharge pod to salute Zero back, not only out of respect for the higher-classed Hunter, but also because of the obligation to return a salute. However, this was probably the first time someone actually saluted X first.

X paused to think. He had an idea of where he wanted his office to be, but he hoped Zero wouldn't mind. "...Um...is there an available office next to yours?" he asked. "I-if there isn't I guess I could just use any empty office in the base," he added hastily in case there wasn't or Zero said no. He wasn't sure exactly why he wanted an office next to Zero, he just did. Maybe he felt...what was the word for it? Secure, around Zero. Because to Zero, he wasn't invisible.

Zero thought for a moment. "I don't think there's an empty one right next to mine. However there is one that is a few doors down if that will work." He said looking at X. He hadn't really expected the blue reploid to ask for an office near his own, but he kind of liked the idea. At least then he wouldn't be stuck with only idiots on the floor he was on. Besides, he'd be able to keep up with X's training easier that way. He planned to try and keep helping the green eyed reploid as much as he possibly could. X's potential still wasn't fully reached yet.

X's face practically lit up when Zero told him about a vacant office near his and nodded. "Yes, that's perfect!" he replied energetically. He really didn't think Zero would be okay with a newbie B-Class on his floor. He highly doubted anyone else would be as accepting, though, due to X's less-than-acceptable track record.

X hated fighting. He really did. However, he really had no choice. That was why he became a Hunter in the first place: to fight to protect humans and Reploids from Mavericks. However, he did have one major trait that nobody else had, and nobody knew if it was a glitch in his programming or something more. He was able to hesitate, something none of the other Reploids--not even Zero or Commander Sigma--were capable of. His hesitation out in the field on those rare times that he had to go on a mission was the main reason why he could never be promoted, but also because Commander Sigma had told them time and time again that X just wasn't ready for that yet.

"If you need more time to rest go ahead and do so. If not you can help clean out the room." Zero stated. Regardless of which the newly promoted reploid would do, he would start cleaning out the room. He really didn't care about how the others on his floor would react. They knew that too. That was probably why they tended not to have an opinion when Zero was around. Most of the time he'd just yell at them to get back to work.

Zero knew how much X hated to fight, but the fact of the matter was, was that the blue reploid was good at it. He'd seen X hesitate before and he had to figure out how to get rid of that. Or at least diminish how bad it was. He would go on missions with X to keep an eye on him. That way if the shorter reploid hesitated he'd be able to defend him. The only way X could get better was to go on missions. There was only so much the holo room could do.

X followed Zero up to the floor where the blonde's office was, feeling well enough to move at least. He'd rest later. Upon seeing his new office, X paused. It was huge!

"Where should we start, sir?" asked X.

He wondered what kinds of missions he would be sent on now. As a B-Class Hunter, X was now obliged to go on actual missions as a Hunter instead of staying around the base and doing paperwork. He mainly just hoped he would be up to everyone's expectations; he didn't want to let anyone down, especially Zero, who actually was the one to get X his promotion.

A message suddenly popped up in his peripheral vision, like an "e-mail" of sorts. X read it and was rather surprised.

B-Class Hunter X
I'm proud that you were able to finally be promoted. You've come far, and as reluctant as I am to let you go to the field with your inexperience, I have to accept that it will be a learning experience for you and I can't stop you. You have a lot of potential, X, so don't let it go to waste. I'm giving you and A-Class Hunter Zero a day off to rest and recover from your mission and training today, so tomorrow you're free to do as you wish. We will bring you up to speed on your new responsibilities when you return.
Sincerely
Commander Sigma

"S-sir, did you receive a message from Commander Sigma?" X asked Zero. No doubt he did.

Zero nodded and skimmed over the message quickly. He never really read his emails fully, as his ability to do paperwork quickly helped him in that regard. He'd learned how to skim over something quickly and pick out the important parts. He took a look at the room and sighed. He'd forgotten they had started to store things in the room. "Set up a transfer pad over there. I'll have to set one up in the room where all this is going. That way we won't be dragging this downstairs and then coming back up." He said before taking one last glance at everything and handing X a small disk. It looked like a CD but when set on the floor it spread out and began to pulsate light to signal it was active.

He left and went down to the storage room on the lower level before setting up a receiver for the transfer pad. He got some of the rookies to stay in the room and find a place for things as they came into the room before going back upstairs into X's soon to be office.

X set up the transfer pad and waited for the signal to become active once Zero set up his end of the transfer, then waited patiently for Zero to return before moving things to the transfer pad, as he wasn't sure what should be sent to storage and what should stay in the office.

All the while, he was wondering what he would be able to do on his day off. He never got days off, and even if he did, he didn't have anything to do when not working other than helping Dr. Cain or wandering around the city. He tinkered around with the idea of spending the day with Zero, but most likely Zero would have plans of his own so he wouldn't even ask. Looked like X was just going to be spending another day at Dr. Cain's lab and manor.

Zero began moving some of the larger things first. He left a desk, file cabinet, chair, and a somewhat large workbench in the room. Most of the smaller things didn't need to stay in the office, unless X wanted something out of them. He could hear the rookies grumbling over the communicator but ignored it for the most part. He had better things to do than yell at them for once.

Once they were finished Zero leaned against the desk and wondered just what he would do. He'd never actually had a day off, choosing to just keep working through them. He crossed one of his legs in front of the other and looked at X who looked somewhat tired from moving so much stuff. "Hey, X, you got any plans for your day off already?" He asked wondering if X had already thought of something to do. If he had, Zero would just keep working more than likely.

He was mildly interested in looking at the new park that had been built, mostly because he didn't get to see all that much of nature. Well, nature that was actually nature. Holo rooms didn't count, and most of the plants now were 'robots' in a sense.

X had kept a few small things from the boxes, namely a bunch of holo screens, tools, and little odd trinkets that he found interesting, and arranged them on his new desk. The rest of the stuff was sent to the storage room. This would take so much getting used to, as his original "office" was just a desk in a small room.

When Zero asked if X had plans, he paused, sitting on the workbench with his legs stretched out and one foot balanced on the other. "No, sir," he replied. "I've...never had a day off before, so I have nothing to do. I usually just stay at Dr. Cain's manor when I'm not working." He wondered why Zero asked.

"I was gonna go look at the new park they managed to grow and was just wondering if you wanted to tag along." Zero half lied. He did want to go see it, but saw no point in taking the time off to. At least if he was by himself anyway, and X was the only one he could stand being around. Although there was one thing he'd have to get X out of the habit of. "And call me Zero." It sounded a bit like an order, but that was just his normal voice. After bossing around so many Hunters it would've been surprising if his voice hadn't gained that tone.

Supposedly the park was inside a dome. It seemed the air outside wasn't completely good enough for the plants to survive on their own. It seemed some scientists had managed to clone some birds and other animals as well. There weren't really a whole lot of wild animals that were left, mostly just stray dogs and cats so he figured it would be a refreshing change of scenery.

X blinked in surprise. Zero actually offered for him to tag along? He was...well, honored, to say the least, but also relieved. He didn't have to go through the awkwardness of trying to ask if he could hang out with Zero. "Th-thank you, si--" he paused, "uh, Zero."

It never once dawned on him until then that he NEVER once said Zero's actual name. Not even in conversations; he never talked to anyone.

X allowed himself a small smile. He'd heard rumors that Zero was a rather scary Reploid that terrified rookies and C-Class Hunters, and even scared B-Class and fellow A-Class Hunters, and that he was a total loner that hated everyone. But...he didn't seem too bad.

Zero smiled slightly when X had to correct himself. He had a feeling that was going to happen quite a few times before the fellow Hunter actually got used to saying his name. He wasn't sure X had ever said his name before. "If you'd like to rest for a bit we can go a little later." He suggested, not wanting to drag X out of the base if he were still tired. He'd taken some bad damage from the holo room and needed to relax anyway. The park was roughly half a mile from the base and Zero had no intention of riding a chaser over there. He didn't see much of a point to it.

"Thanks," said X. He was visibly exhausted, both from the mission that morning and the training sessions. His entire midsection felt like it had been ripped in half. The blue Reploid was grateful that Zero offered to let him rest for a while. Besides, Zero looked like he needed a break as well.

"Um...Commander Sigma gave us all day tomorrow off," he remarked. "If it's okay, we can go tomorrow. You look like you need to rest too." Even if it wasn't physically obvious, X noticed that Zero seemed to be zoning out a little.

X was more aware of things than Zero initially thought. Most people had no idea when he was tired. They just thought he was some insane reploid that ran off the misery of others. That was something he'd heard one of the idiot navigators say over the communicator. Obviously they forgot to switch channels. "You're right I probably should. And that sounds good to me." He said before standing up straight again. It had been a while since he'd actually rested.

X figured he would try to be nice to Zero, since the blonde had done so much for him in just one day. He walked to another part of his new office and fumbled through something, pulling out two E-Tanks. "This should help a bit," he said, handing one to Zero. They were different than the usual emergency tanks that just connected to a Reploid, as these were more like a beverage for Reploids. In a sense, he was offering Zero the equivalent of a soda.

X was rather surprised. While Zero WAS the no-nonsense type, he was actually a nice person. X guessed Zero just disliked the crap that all the others pulled, such as the medics not paying lower-ranking Hunters any mind.

Zero nodded and took the E-Tank from X thankful for the offer. He was feeling rather sluggish. "Thanks." He said before drinking some of it. He noticed X was being a little nicer to him and wondered why. Whenever the others were nice he had to put his guard up because they usually had something planned. X however, just seemed to be nice. It was a refreshing change from the others.

X drank about half the E-Tank he'd grabbed for himself, sitting back on the workbench. He looked up at Zero for a moment in confusion.

"...Almost everyone says you're this really scary, insane Reploid," he commented, "but...you're really a nice person. Why does everyone treat you like that?"
