| Zero was rather annoyed at how non proficient the Hunter base was. He truly wondered how they ever got anything done. Hunters were called out on missions while doing paper work, causing it to never get finished. The navigators tended to chit chat with each other instead of actually looking out for those they were supposed to watch. They needed a real commander. There really wasn't anyone in charge, of the entire base at least. Zero himself was probably the highest ranking Hunter there. He hadn't had the time to even look because he was constantly swamped with the reports that the others forgot to do.
"X! Where's the damage report?" The tone in his voice made it sound like he should've had it in his hands yesterday. He was stuck doing more paperwork than actually killing Maverick's half the time. He tended to use X as an assistant because the blue reploid was the only one he could actually trust to get something done.

| A young, somewhat meek Reploid clad in blue armor sat at a desk quietly filing out paperwork. He sighed as he signed the last of one stack of papers, then started working on another. It seemed he was the only one who could ever finish paperwork, as he was rarely called out on missions due to hesitating on the job. So, whenever the other Hunters were called out, they piled up their paperwork on his desk and asked him to fill it out.
X would quietly comply. He was only a C-Class Hunter. He really had no right to be out there fighting Mavericks. He'd just get in the way.
When he heard the door to his office open, he almost sighed, expecting to be handed more work, but a glimpse of red and black snapped him to attention. He immediately started to fumble through the papers, looking for the damage report requested. "H-h-here you are, sir!" he stammered, handing a small stack of papers held together by a paperclip to Zero.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| Zero took the papers and flipped through them, able to get a majority of the information rather quickly. It was exactly what he was looking for, but something was missing. "Where's the damage report on the forest?" He asked noticing that it was missing. He knew that there was a mission not to long ago because, even though X filled out most if not all of the paper work, he still had to read over it and make sure it was right. Even if there had been no damage, which he highly doubted with the idiots at his disposal, a report still had to be filled out.
If he were human his blood pressure would probably be sky high, especially after hearing the navigators chatting on a separate channel. He made sure to switch between channels every so often to make sure that it wasn't being abused. Nine times out of ten however it was. He quickly started to chew the navigators out over the communication channel while X looked for the missing file.

| Damage report on the forest? Uh-oh.
X immediately began searching through all the papers again as fast as he could; dawdling would only anger Zero more. He winced slightly when the vermillion-armored Reploid began yelling through his communicator, no doubt at the navigators. Zero was already boiling mad; if X made a mistake odds are he'd receive the brunt of the blonde's anger.
A quick thumb-through of another section of papers, this one applications for new trainees, revealed the last damage report. X took a brief second to peek at it before handing it to Zero. It appeared a very powerful Maverick had attacked, and the casualties were severe.
"H-here, sir," said X in a meek tone, trying to get Zero's attention to hand him the paper.

| Zero switched the channel his communicator was on before the navigators had a chance to actually yell at him and took the report from X. The navigators tended to do that whenever they weren't on the main channel. He quickly looked over the report with a grimace and put it in order within the other papers. "Thanks. Sometimes I think you're the only one that can actually do anything." He commented before returning back to the file room. He had to enter everything that were on the reports. Casualties, environment damage, Hunter damage, Maverick status, and if the area was secure or not. He did that quickly, but was greeted with a warning message when he was done. Something was coming towards the base. He and X were the only ones that were capable of fighting. He cursed.
"X! The base is under attack, I need you to come help me!" Zero yelled running back over to the blue clad reploid's office to make sure X heard him. They were small enemies, but enough to give him trouble if he went out alone. All the other Hunters were either damaged, out, or rookies. It was up to the two of them if they wanted to ensure that the base got out of the event relatively unscathed.

| X sighed and sat back down when Zero left to go enter the report into the file room, then started working on the rest of his paperwork. The rest was mostly just applications to join the Hunters, which X wasn't even certified to take care of, so he set those off to the side for a higher-ranking officer, and finished up the last of the work, which was just schedule confirmation, requests for time off, small stuff.
He was always stuck like this, but it didn't bother him. He wasn't cut out for fighting. In fact, he hated it.
Then he heard footsteps clanking rapidly toward his room, followed by Zero's voice. An attack? That wasn't good, but he was confused. Why did Zero need a C-Class Hunter like X? Zero was an A-Class Hunter and honestly the best after Commander Sigma. It shouldn't be a problem for him, but X wasn't about to go against a superior's orders. The blue Reploid immediately started following Zero closely, his right arm morphing into a Buster.
"What's the current situation, sir?" asked X once he caught up to Zero.

| Zero was silent for a moment. He was listening to the details so that he could tell X. "It seems a construction class mechaniloid his heading straight for the base. We're ordered to intercept it and try to shut it down with minimal damage and casualties." He told the green eyed reploid next to him. There were other smaller ones that the rookies had been sent to dispatch of, but knowing them most would get through to Zero. He had no doubt they would all swarm to him when he started to attack the largest mechaniloid there. Truth be told however, he just wanted to see what X could really do.
"Grab a chaser and follow me." Zero ordered, getting on one of the vehicles after reaching the transport bay. He waited until he knew X would be able to catch up before driving off into the direct of the mechaniloids. Some of the rookies could be seen ahead of him. "Got any questions?" He asked X over the communicator. He didn't need the blue reploid unsure of what to do when they were there so it was best to ask now.

| X was silent as Zero explained the situation to him. He'd heard about these types of attacks before, as they weren't exactly uncommon, but this was the first time he'd actually be on the field of battle to take care of this. Normally the lower-ranked Reploid was only sent out for recon missions, never to actually dispose of a Maverick.
X followed Zero to the transport bay, hopping on one of the ride chasers in the bay before following Zero. He had to disable his Buster for the time being to be able to steer the chaser properly; hopefully that wouldn't leave him unarmed in the event of an ambush.
"Is there any information about its weaker points or model type?" asked X. Every Mechaniloid had a weak spot that, if exploited correctly, could disable the Mechaniloid with very little damage, and the repairs were simple. Hopefully this Mechaniloid was similar to one fought before.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| "Crabs-Y model. Apparently it was altered for construction. Although it's weak point seems to be it's head and underside." Zero informed X as he caught up to him. As they approached their destination it was obvious that minimal damage was going to be hard. It had already brought down two buildings. As Zero scanned the area however, a grin spread across his face. He didn't need a chaser anyway. "Are you ready X?" He asked. They were maybe half a mile from their target and closing in fast. He glanced over at the blue reploid, noticing slight uncertainty in his eyes. Maybe he should've just left the lower class Hunter at the base.

| X listened carefully to Zero's explanation and quickly developed a strategy he believed would work. There were two weak points, and X and Zero each had a buster. One charged shot to both weak points simultaneously should take it out with no trouble.
When Zero slowed his ride chaser to a stop and scanned the area, X slowed to a stop next to him. He was about to mention his strategy to the superior Reploid, but paused when he saw the grin on his face. He'd heard rumors that Zero loved to fight, that the only time he seemed truly alive was on the battlefield. Now he'd get to see it firsthand.
The blue-clad Reploid nodded. "Yes, sir," he replied when Zero asked if he was ready. He dismounted his chaser and readied his Buster.
Loud, rumbling footsteps began to close in as X got his first glimpse of the Mechaniloid. His eyes widened. He'd seen photos of a Crabs-Y before, but he didn't expect it to be that big!

| Zero dismounted his chaser and jammed the steering column so that it wouldn't be able to turn and forced the speed to the max setting. The chaser shot forward and was launched off a piece of a broken building. Acting like a ramp, it shot the chaser straight at the mechaniloids head. The vehicle exploded upon impact and a large smoke cloud covered where the mechaniloid would be. "Hey, it worked." Zero commented more to himself than anyone. It sounded as if he didn't expect the chaser to end up where it did. The rumbling footsteps could be heard approaching them again, this time at a quicker pace. Seemed like the blond had succeeded in making it angry.
Zero changed his hand to a buster and waited for the mechaniloid to get closer. The Crabs-Y's head was sparking, but it seemed to be otherwise unfazed. Maybe the upgrade into a construction model made it less of a weak spot. Normally it would be down by now. He wasn't sure how he wanted to go about attacking the large mechaniloid yet.

| X watched awestruck as the blonde somehow turned his chaser into practically a missile and sent it flying toward the Crabs-Y. It seemed to do a good deal of damage, but the Mechaniloid wasn't stopping.
No better time than now to explain his plan.
"Sir," began X, "I think we should try firing two charged shots simultaneously at the Mechaniloid's underside. That should be enough to disable it, right?"
He knew his own charged shot wasn't as powerful as Zero's, as Zero had received several upgrades with his promotion that increased his overall energy capacity, but at the least it would augment Zero's.

| Zero glanced over his shoulder at X. He listened to the plan rather closely and smiled. It was probably the first time X had ever seen the blond smile. "Sounds good. Get ready, it'll be on us in about thirty seconds." He stated before turning back to look at the mechaniloid. He would draw it away allowing X to not have to worry about dodging and firing off an accurate shot at the same time.
Zero fired a non charged shot at the Crabs-Y's side to draw it towards him and quickly dashed away before it could impale him. He used the time he was dodging to charge up a shot and shoot it at the mechaniloid's underside. It landed a direct hit, but it would only be apparent if it did anything after X fired off a shot of his own.

| X immediately felt a slight floating feeling when Zero smiled. He'd never once seen the blonde smile to anyone; usually he kept a straight face or a scowl. Was...was Zero actually impressed at the plan?
The younger Reploid immediately snapped out of his stupor at Zero's warning and readied himself for the Crabs-Y. Before he could do anything, however, Zero had caught its attention by shooting at it and strafing away. It took X a second to realize that the blonde was trying to give X an opening.
X would take it.
A split second after Zero had fired his charged shot--which he had charged while X was trying to figure out what Zero was doing--X began to charge his own shot, but something wasn't right. Why was it taking so long to charge...?!
Of course. X was never sent on missions that required charge shots, so he never got upgrades to increase the charge speed.
While the blue Reploid fumbled with his Buster and tried to get it to work, the Crabs-Y turned its attention to him, and before X could react, a massive claw had clamped down on his midsection and lifted him into the air, tightening is crushing hold and eliciting a yell of pain from X. Instead of waiting for his Buster to fully charge, he aimed it and fired directly at the Crabs-Y's face, hoping to do SOMETHING to it.

| Zero swore and jumped up onto the claw that was attempting to crush X. He had changed his buster out and was trying to pry the mechaniloids claw open. He managed to open it enough for X to drop back down to the ground before he let go. The crab mechaniloid tried to grab him in its other claw, but Zero jumped back down before it could. "You all right?" He asked landing next to X. The blue clad reploid would need to get some upgrades. If X did he could probably ascend through the ranks rather quickly.
He turned back to face the mechaniloid and continued to alternate firing shots at the Crabs-Y's head and underside. He would have to keep the large mechaniloids attention on him until X was able to fully charge a shot. It would take a little while, but he had a feeling if X fired off a fully charged shot it would be rather powerful.

| X had almost blacked out from the Crabs-Y crushing him, but thankfully Zero was able to pry open the claw enough for the younger Reploid to slip out of its hold. The moment he landed, however, he knew something was very wrong. Many of his internal systems were damaged, and he'd lost feeling in his legs. He pushed himself upright as best he could, but his legs just wouldn't respond.
"I-I'll be fine..." replied X when Zero asked about his condition. He wouldn't show weakness to a superior. He refused to fail, even with an injury that left half his body disabled.
X began to charge another shot. He was grateful that Zero was holding off the Mechaniloid until it charged, which took about thirty seconds. He aimed and fired the shot directly at the Crabs-Y's underside. A heavy cloud of smoke from the impact obscured it from view; Zero would probably be able to see the damage but X couldn't. He assumed it wasn't much; the blast wasn't big even with a full charge.

| Zero's eyes widened when X's shot connected with the underside of the mechaniloid. The thing was out of commission. He figured that he had weakened the mechaniloid enough to allow X to do such a thing. He was going to comment on it, but the Crabs-Y started to collapse in the direction he was in. Zero dashed and rolled to avoid getting crushed by the mechaniloid and skidded over next to X. He was.. laughing?
This was the most fun he'd had killing a Maverick in a while. The other Hunters were annoying and didn't even know how to follow orders. X on the other hand could come up with a plan on his own and actually fight. Upgrades would help with his fighting ability a little, but he had the raw talent to be a good fighter. "So much for minimal damage." He stated tilting his head back to look at the scrap heap across from them. He was laying on his back, but quickly jumped up and held out his hand to X. He could tell that the blue clad reploid was damaged but didn't want to show it. That earned him more respect from Zero than the other Hunters could gain in a month.

| X's breathing had become a little heavier and quicker as the blue Reploid tried to cool his systems. They were seriously overheating; he'd never used a fully charged Buster shot before. When the smoke cleared and X could see the Mechaniloid, he was absolutely shocked to find that he'd blasted a hole clean through the Crabs-Y; his shot entered through the underside and shot straight through the top. D...did I do that...?! he wondered.
His attention shifted when he heard Zero laughing. He looked over at the red Reploid with notable confusion in his eyes. First he got to see Zero smile, then he got to hear him laugh. That was...good, right?
The brunette scanned the area. They'd done quite a bit of damage, unfortunately, but thankfully it was much less than what it could have been. He then looked up at his blonde superior with a hint of a shy smile and moved to accept the offered hand.
The second he moved however, he felt and heard a sickening, grinding crunch from his insides and doubled over in pain, his hand seizing up and becoming almost clawlike in nature. He felt his inner workings shifting around under his bodysuit. The damage was serious.
No. He had to...stay strong...
Before the blue Reploid knew what happened, he was unconscious.

| Zero managed to catch X before the blue reploid hit the ground and heaved a sigh. At least they still had one chaser left. He managed to carry the green eyed reploid over to the chaser and drive back to the base without either of them falling off or crashing. He was forced to bring X to the med bay and look over the damage himself since no one else was qualified more than him to do so.
Zero hooked X up to recharge and used about three holo screens to take a look at the blue reploid's inner workings. He dedicated one to performing a scan, another to tell him the names of parts, and the third to tell him where the part should actually go. It took about thirty minutes to fix X up again and for the scan to come back good. At about the time he was done, the blue reploid was starting to rouse from unconsciousness.

| X slowly came out of his standby mode after his systems reported that all repairs were made. It took a moment for everything to start coming back online, due to the replacement parts used to repair him, but once it did, he noticed Zero next to the recharge pod he was laying in, replacing a piece of X's chest armor that had to be removed to repair him.
Immediately the blue Reploid realized what had happened. After he shut down, Zero was forced to carry him back to headquarters and repair him, because the weaker Reploid was incompetent and his shortcomings led to him getting injured.
"...I'm sorry, sir..." he said in a somewhat quiet tone, but he immediately berated himself mentally for using that tone. It showed weakness. From what X had heard from rookies and trainees, Zero had a no-tolerance policy for weakness. X wouldn't be surprised if Zero reported his failure to Commander Sigma. Either way, he'd take whatever punishment his superior deemed fit.

| "Are you kidding? Did you see how badly you damaged that mechaniloid? You should be an A-Class Hunter, maybe even S-Class if you trained right." Zero commented after X spoke. Although he usually had a no-tolerance attitude towards any kind of weakness, but that was because everyone he was stuck with were idiots or didn't even care to begin with. X was different though. Even though the blue reploid didn't like to fight he would be a great Hunter regardless. Especially considering how powerful X's buster was. It took a while to charge, but it was more powerful than his own.
"Get some rest. Whenever you're fully aware, meet me in the training room." Zero ordered. If the green eyed reploid was already rested enough they could report their immediately, otherwise he would allow X to rest for at least a little while. He had to fill out the paperwork on their last mission anyway.

| X immediately tried to sit up when Zero said for him to meet him in the training room. He wouldn't let a lack of energy stop him. The blue Reploid shifted his legs over to stand, relieved that his legs were responding properly to the signals he sent them. The second he stood, however, they almost gave out, and he found himself nearly falling. He gripped the side of the recovery pod tightly to keep himself upright. His right eye grayed to tell him his current energy readings.
Core energy at 15%. Reserve energy at 5%.
How did he lose so much energy? Were his injuries really that bad? It wasn't too surprising; his self-repair systems took much more energy than that of other Reploids.
Still, he refused to let this get to him. He wouldn't be weak. Zero already had to tend to him once today, he didn't need to burden the A-Class with any more shortcomings. He'd deal with it. Hopefully Zero would mistake his nearly falling for his legs not functioning at full capacity yet.

| Zero quickly took notice of X's state. He remembered what the blue reploid's energy level's were at before he disconnected the holo screens and shook his head. "You need to recharge." He stated. He could tell that X wanted to push himself to prove that he wasn't weak. "There's times where you need to push yourself and times you don't. Don't make me sit in here and make sure you recharge." His voice had returned back to it's normal commanding tone. Although now he sounded a little more like a parent than anything. X might not believe that he would sit in here and do paper work just to keep him there, but he would. He had no qualms with doing such a thing.
Zero had crossed his arms over his chest and was staring right at X. It was obvious he wouldn't let the green eyed reploid do anything until he was charged a little more.

| X wanted to protest with an "I'm fine sir, really," but he knew better than to go against a higher-ranking Hunter like Zero. "Y...yes, sir..." said X. He carefully got back into the recharge pod, which automatically connected to his systems.
All the blue Reploid wanted to do was prove himself. That's all he ever tried to do. That's why he was always obedient. That's why he always pushed himself to the point of collapse. That's why he tried desperately not to show weakness.
He promised his father that he would fight to protect humanity, despite being a pacifist at heart. How could he do that if he was so weak?

| Zero walked over to one of the work benches and filled out the paperwork for both of them before transferring them where they needed to go. He pulled out his own blueprints along with the ones he was able to decode for X's buster and examined them. Their busters seemed rather similar in design, but were a little different. He grimaced a bit. They were different enough to make the process of working that much harder.
He was going to try and make some upgrades for X but he wasn't sure he would be able to. He shook his head and made a list of things he needed on a holo screen before collecting them and starting to build an upgrade on his own. He would have to test how it connected to the blue reploid's systems before X tried firing with it active. He didn't want to damage X even more.
It took him a good hour before he was happy with how the upgrade had come out. By that time X was or was close to being fully charged. He looked rather stressed and looked over the upgrade a few more times, eve running a scan on the piece of equipment himself. He didn't want to make something that would harm X.

| The second X's core and reserve energy was fully replenished, the blue Reploid bolted upright, like a human coming out of a nightmare. He'd accidentally gone into sleep mode while he rested. If Zero noticed he was dead. He pressed his hand to his helmeted head, still feeling a little off-kilter but better than he did before.
X carefully got out of the recharge pod, taking a moment to make sure his balance was good before walking over to Zero and standing at attention--arms behind his back, left hand holding the back of the right and pressed to the small of his back, feet apart at shoulder width. He was a little confused when he saw that Zero had pulled up some blueprints, but decided not to question it.

| "Have a nice nap?" Zero questioned not even looking over his shoulder at X. He rolled up the blueprints and turned around to face X, the upgrade in hand. "Let me see your buster." He stated as more of a demand than a request. He hadn't given X enough time to really respond to his first comment finding it not really all that important. The upgrade should decrease the amount of time X needed to charge his buster if it worked right. However he still needed to run some scans after it was installed to make sure it was okay.

| X wanted to facepalm for having fallen asleep like that, as Zero apparently did know, but he refrained from doing so, instead pausing when he noticed the strange device in Zero's hand. It looked like...a Buster upgrade?
X held out his arm and morphed it into his Buster, then stepped a bit closer to Zero, holding his arm out to him. All the while, a feeling of excitement had bloomed in X's "stomach". Was Zero giving him an upgrade? This would be his very first upgrade since his creation.

| Zero applied the upgrade to X's buster. It completely integrating with his system was a good sign. However, he was more cautious than that and dragged one of the holo screens over to do a thorough but quick scan. Everything seemed to be working fine. He was surprised and relieved at the same time. He did one more to be sure and upon getting the same result he would let X try out the upgrade. "Since it seems to be okay, we should test it out to make sure it's working properly. After all, it's only something I made, not your creator." He stated before motioning for X to follow him. He walked to the training room.

| X returned his arm back to normal while flexing his hand a few times. The installation of a new upgrade felt...odd. Like, it didn't belong there, yet it did. He was curious to find out what it would do.
He was so lost in thought that he didn't even really notice when Zero motioned for him to follow the blonde to the training room, and had to jog to keep up with him. He wondered how the superior Reploid planned to test out the new upgrade.

| Zero entered the holo room and pulled up the controls in front of him. "If I built that right then it should decrease how long it takes for you to charge up your shot. To test it, I'm going to pull up a target and you'll have to shoot it within the time limit. I'll start it off at your normal charge time and decrease it until we figure out if it really makes a difference or not." Zero stated while making a general reploid appear across the room from X. It disappeared a moment after. "This will also test your reflex time as you'll have to start charging as soon as you see it. If you do before the holo gram is up it doesn't count." Zero said making sure that X knew the 'rules' of the training procedure. He flipped on the hologram projection causing the 'enemy' to appear in front of X. The training started then.

| X changed his arm back into a Buster and listened carefully to Zero's instructions. Okay, so it's like a twist on usual target practice. X had usually been able to participate in basic target practice, since it was a requirement for all Hunters in the event there was a sudden attack, like what had happened today, but he never did any real training other than that.
The second the hologram was in front of him, X began charging his Buster. He noticed something very different--the energy used to charge the Buster felt like it was actually surging into the Buster, not a slow trickle like before. Thirty seconds was his original charge time, but the upgrade shortened that time to...well...they'd find out soon.
X unloaded the charged shot on the hologram the second it fully charged.

| The hologram fizzled out when the hit connected and Zero actually smiled again. "Time, 15.3 seconds. Adjusting hologram time to 15 seconds." Zero said before typing in the new timing. The upgrade had cut X's charge Tim in half, but he felt like he could push the blue reploid to an even faster time. The power reading on X's buster shot was almost on par with his own. Given any upgrades the green eyed reploid would be far stronger than him. He waited until X was ready again before pulling up the hologram.
Zero was intent on making X stronger, just because everyone had looked over him. Even though X didn't like to fight he knew that if forced to he could become an S-Class Hunter. Or at the very least an A-Class. Since X was always eager to please he knew it wouldn't be hard to push the blue reploid during training.

| X was still blinking in surprise at how much power his shots had when they were charged after the hologram fizzled out of existence. The blue Reploid glanced over at Zero when the blonde told him his current charge time and was surprised to find that he was smiling. Zero smiling made X feel like he'd actually accomplished something.
The instant the hologram came up, X started charging another shot, this time trying to force energy to the Buster to see if it would shorten the charge time a bit further. He fired the shot at the hologram, hoping it would hit.
He wondered what Zero had planned for him. The superior Reploid had to have some reason for giving him an upgrade and actually testing X himself.

| The hologram did the same as last time and dissipated. "Time, 13.1. Reducing time to 8.5 seconds. Try to charge the shot as fast as you can." Zero ordered X. He didn't bother to wait for the reploid to get ready, he should be ready for anything. After all it was a test of reaction time as well. He felt like he might be able to get the blue reploids charge time to five seconds, but that might also be pushing things too far. He wanted it under ten seconds at least.

| "Yes sir," said X when Zero gave him a new order. He kept his eyes moving, scanning the training area for the hologram. As soon as he saw it, he started charging the Buster again, this time forcing as much energy as he could into the weapon at one time; it charged notably faster than before, and X managed to fire a much more powerful blast than usual, but something was wrong.
His entire arm was beginning to hurt from rerouting energy to his Buster, and his systems felt like they were overheating. There was actually steam starting to come out of the muzzle of his Buster now.

| Zero noticed the steam coming from X's buster and heaved a sigh. He wasn't upset that X wasn't able to shoot anymore, he was a little upset at himself. He'd pushed the blue reploid too far. "Time, 7.9. That's enough for now. We need to take a look at your buster and see what happened." He stated while going over to X.
Zero grabbed X's arm and pulled it up so he could take a look at the buster. He wasn't crazy enough to look down the barrel with the weapon still active, but examined the outside. It seemed to be something internal. Was it the upgrade? He ran a scan on the green eyed reploids buster to try and troubleshoot what was wrong.

| Three charged shots was apparently all X could manage right now. His breathing was somewhat irregular as he tried to cool his systems, which were seriously overheating. His charge time was now much shorter than before, but only if he forced all the energy to his Buster. Maybe that was the problem he was having; he was trying to force his Buster to charge by rerouting all of his energy at once.
While Zero was examining the blue Reploid's Buster, X checked his energy reserves and realized there was another problem. Apparently, since he rarely used his Buster, he didn't know that it was actually drawing from his core energy, which overheated his systems more than just forcing energy to the Buster. He needed to figure out how to work around that and actually use his spare energy to power the Buster.
"I'm sorry sir..." X apologized again. He never actually knew how a Buster worked, and even with the upgrade Zero gave him--which he was grateful for--his charge time would still be too slow unless he pushed himself, and even then he'd only crank out three shots at the most. He wasn't cut out to be a Hunter.

| Zero was a little surprised at the buster diagnostic. It seemed no one had given X proper training with it. He triggered a command prompt to pull some of the blue reploids reserve energy and power his core. Even though X's shots were rather powerful it took too much energy to pull off. He'd need to figure out another upgrade to reduce the energy cost. He'd forgotten that he had needed one himself so it only made sense for X to need one as well.
"It looks like I'm going to have to teach you how to properly reroute energy." Zero commented after finishing looking over the diagnostic. Nothing seemed to be permanently wrong with his buster. X was just overheating from pulling energy from his core. He triggered another command prompt that quickly cooled down X's system at the expense of a little more energy. The blue reploid had plenty of energy left to be okay for maybe two hours so the sudden cooling wouldn't waste too much.

| X staggered forward a step at the two different command prompts, the change in energy making him dizzy. The blue Reploid almost fell, but he locked his knee joints so he would remain standing and looked back at Zero, grateful for him helping, but also very confused at this point.
"Sir..." he began hesitantly. "I...I'm just a C-Class Hunter... Don't you, and A-Class, have more important things to deal with than an incompetent rookie...?"
It was in no way intended as sarcasm, or being smart, it was a legitimate question. X simply wanted to understand why Zero was taking time out of his own schedule to train him. Was it just so that mistake wouldn't happen again?

| Zero looked at X when he asked. He realized it was actually a real question. "Because you have the potential to be an S-Class Hunter if you apply yourself. You're not incompetent like most of the others." He stated before closing the holo screen. He could tell that X was used to no one paying him any attention. Even if the blue clad reploid didn't fight he would at least have more respect at a higher rank. He honestly didn't like seeing the others boss X around, just because they were idiots.
"You'll need to recharge again. Your systems look fine so nothing happened." Zero told X before shutting down the holo room. He'd get the blue reploid to train again later. Mostly after he made another upgrade and taught X how to actually reroute energy effectively.

| X's expression changed almost immediately when Zero said that. Usually, the blue Reploid was either ignored, bossed around, or trampled on by the higher-ranking Hunters, and even some of the C-Class Hunters had started to take advantage of X's meekness and willingness to live up to expectations. It really hadn't started lessening until X became Zero's assistant, because everyone respected the blonde, but even then X was taken advantage of or blatantly ignored. Even Commander Sigma showed hardly any interest in him.
But Zero was different. Zero actually SAW X.
X looked down at the floor. He was honored that such a renowned Hunter would say that to him. "...M...my creator once told me why I'm named X..." he mumbled, mostly to nobody in particular but loud enough that Zero would hear him. "...He said that...I have limitless potential...like the name X is a variable...with an infinite number of values..."
The blue Reploid returned his arm to normal. His hand was burning slightly from using charged shots. It was something he'd have to get used to. When Zero said he'd need to recharge, he nodded. "Yes, sir," he said. He saluted to the superior Reploid and started walking back to his quarters, pausing a few steps from Zero. "...Thank you," he said before continuing back to his quarters to recharge.

| Zero saluted X back showing his respect for the blue reploid and smiled again. With enough training he knew that X could live up to his name. He returned to his office which had a lab hidden within it. After he'd looked over X's schematics he noticed that the green eyed reploid had a lot of areas where he could have upgrades. He wondered if X's creator had left the Hunter any upgrades. If he did then he had a whole lot of spare time. It seemed as though X could interchange what armor he had on, which was rather surprising.
Zero started working on another upgrade for X. Now that he knew that the blue reploid's programming would accept something he made he was willing to make another upgrade for him. The new upgrade was a lot harder to build than the other one he made. It took him about half the day before it was completely right. He was exhausted since he hadn't recharged in a while and had ended up falling asleep halfway laying on the work bench, the finished upgrade next to him.

| X took a good deal of time recharging, setting the recharge pod to work a bit slower than normal so the energy wouldn't surge into his systems and cause damage. It took roughly four hours to fully recharge, but once he did he felt much better. He got up out of the recharge pod, bouncing on his "toes" a little to get himself back into moving again, then smiled fondly, remembering that the last thing he saw of Zero before leaving to recharge was the superior Reploid saluting with a smile on his face.
Nobody ever saluted to X, not in response. Even the rookies and newbies didn't salute to him, as if he wasn't even there.
Zero was completely different from everyone else.
X wanted to go back to the training room to practice using his charged shots a bit more, but knew that it was against protocol for a C-Class Hunter to use the training room without a higher-ranked Hunter supervising the training programs to ensure nothing went wrong. He was always so awkward around the other Hunters, so that was out of the question.
Would Zero be interested in helping him?
X walked to Zero's office, noting that the door was open, and peeked in. He didn't dare enter without permission.

| The blond could be seen asleep against the work bench from where X was standing. The blue colored upgrade could be seen next to him as well. Zero was immediately awake and aware when he heard footsteps approaching his office however. He'd had enough bad experiences with rookies going through his office. He didn't need anymore. He sat up and glanced over his shoulder looking annoyed, however his expression changed quickly when he realized it was X. "Are you better?" He asked while standing up and grabbing the upgrade. He still looked tired.
Zero went out into his office and shut the door behind him after making sure everything was turned off in his lab. He scanned over the newly made upgrade once again to make sure nothing had happened to it while he'd fallen asleep before setting it on the desk. He pulled out a portable recharge tank and hooked it up to his systems before forcing all the energy to go into his systems at once. Rerouting where it went made it so that it didn't effect him in the slightest. All of it went to his core until it was at 100% before changing it so that it went to his reserves. He had about 63% reserve energy after draining the tank. He quickly put it away and it was a noticeable difference from only moments before. He looked ready to go.

| "Yes sir," replied X when Zero asked if he was doing better. He almost wanted to smile a little when he saw Zero asleep on a work bench, but managed to keep a straight face out of respect for his superior. He looked at the device Zero held in confusion, wondering what it was. It was the exact same color as the darker parts of X's armor. Was it another upgrade?
X waited patiently as Zero gave himself a quick recharge, wondering how he could recharge so quickly without any ill effects. Once he was finished and looked ready to go, X decided to speak up. "Sir, I was wondering if you would supervise the training room simulations," he began, still standing at attention. "I was hoping to practice using my charged shots."

| "Good. Because I made another upgrade for you to try out." Zero stated before grabbing the upgrade again and going over to X. He wondered if the blue reploid knew how to install upgrades, and decided to find out for himself. He handed the upgrade to X before walking back over to grab some papers off his desk. He needed to drop them off anyway and it gave him an excuse to see if X knew what to do with the device.
When Zero turned back to face X he noticed the green eyed reploid was still at attention. "You can relax. And try calling me by my name from time to time." He said before walking passed X towards the training rooms. He dropped off the papers to be sent before unlocking one of the training rooms and going inside. The more advanced rooms had passcodes on them so that the rookies couldn't mess them up. If X hadn't figured out how to use the upgrade he'd show the blue reploid how to then. But then again, maybe X thought he could only use one upgrade at a time since he was a lower class Hunter.

| X shifted his weight to his right foot when Zero said he could relax and started examining the device more closely. It was most certainly an upgrade--from what little he knew about his overall schematics, it looked like it connected directly to his core. He wondered what would happen when he installed it and took a moment to try. The blue Reploid opened the plates on his chest armor, revealing his core and noting that there was a space next to it that was empty, and the perfect size for the upgrade. It only took a few moments for him to connect the upgrade to his core--as there was a port in the core and the upgrade had a matching plug--and as soon as he did, he felt different. All the energy built up in his core suddenly dispersed throughout his body, and he felt more balanced.
X followed Zero closely as he led him to another training room. This one was different than the one he used for his required target practice; it was more advanced, and instead of simple targets across a long room, it was an entire holographic training center. This was an A-Class training center; Zero was alright with him training here? The passcodes for these rooms were meant to keep all B-Class and lower Hunters out...

| "The upgrade is meant to reduce the amount of energy your shots require, and will also help you in rerouting energy since you seem to have trouble doing that." Zero informed X after going into the training room and turning to look back at the blue reploid. He seemed hesitant. "If I bothered to open the door I trust you enough in here." He stated, knowing exactly why X hadn't entered the room yet. The green eyed reploid was just like an open book to Zero most of the time. Sometimes it was hard to tell, but not impossible to figure out what X was thinking.
Zero powered up the room, causing it to light up as a response to show it was on. He set it to randomly chose a terrain. He would be training alongside X this time. However at a lower level that way he could keep track of how the blue reploid was doing. "I'll start the training holograms to rookie level and we'll work our way up. After you get more comfortable with your buster of course." He lied. He was going to start the training at X's rank and work his way up. But maybe if X thought the enemies were weaker he'd do better. He did that himself from time to time when other people were using the controls.

| X was rather surprised at the new upgrade Zero made for him. He felt honored that Zero was actually taking the time to train him and help him with problems he didn't even realize he had. He'd have to repay him somehow.
When Zero said he trusted X in this new training room, X stepped in and changed his arm into his Buster, waiting as Zero set up a training simulation. X had watched some of the simulations before when other A-Class Hunters trained--namely a certain purple-armored Reploid he didn't know the name of--and knew how realistic they could be. This was his first time in a simulation like this.
The terrain happened to be a coastline. Half the room changed to a sandy beach with rocky cliffs and palm trees; the other half was gentle waves and a calm tide. The simulation really did look realistic. X was so awestruck that he didn't see a hologram of an enemy nearby until it was actually within Buster range. Zero said they were rookie-level simulations right? This shouldn't be too difficult for X. The blue Reploid immediately spun around and fired a half-charged shot, noting that there wasn't as much strain on his body.
