| X walked back into the base, straightening his robe. "Well, now that I got that out of my system I guess we ca--" He paused upon seeing Axl sitting against the wall sobbing his eyes out. "Wh--hey, what's wrong?" he asked, kneeling next to the boy.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| "Axl..." X sat all the way down and scooted next to Axl, wrapping his arm loosely around the redhead's shoulders and lightly pulling him over so his head rested on the elf's shoulder. "I don't hate you. It was just unexpected. It was to keep up your disguise, so I have no reason to hate you."

| Sobs diminished to hiccups as Axl clung to the other's robes. "I was so a-afraid you'd abandon me like he did. I d-didn't want it to h-happen again. So I never s-said a word."

| X wrapped his other arm around Axl, shifting so he was hugging Axl, and lightly stroked his hair. "Shh...it's okay, Axl..." he whispered in a gentle, fatherly tone. "I won't abandon you. Promise."

| It dawned on the sobbing child that X was once again comforting him. He didn't know why he was feeling like this, but just the idea of being rejected cut straight into his core like a volcanic knife. His grip on the robes tightened at X's promise as the boy pulled back enough to look up at the elf. "You won't break it, will you?" he asked timidly.

| A smile edged its way back onto Axl's face as his face returned to X's chest, silent tears still rolling down his face and a slight throb in his head. X wouldn't leave, not with a good reason to. Just like Zero. He could believe in the elf.
"Thank you." he whispered in a slight doze.

| The redhead went into a light doze at the petting. He was finally relaxed, or mostly relaxed anyway. Memories were missing, but he was...content for now.

| X carefully picked Axl up and carried him up to the top floor, where the bedrooms now were. They could pick out clothes later. The elf carried the sleeping boy to a vacant room, taking care not to wake him up, and laid him on the bed, pulling the covers over him so he could sleep peacefully.

| X blinked in surprise. "Sing...?" Not really, no. However, he did know how to play a flute, a trait he picked up after he wound up stuck in Cyberspace. He conjured a silvery glass flute. "Would you like me to play a lullaby?" he asked, wondering if that was what the boy wanted.

| X smiled softly. "It's not a problem at all," he said before sitting on the bed beside Axl. He took a moment to think of a lullaby to play for him, and once he did, he brought the flute up to his lips and played a very gentle and soothing tune.

| As the soft lullaby washed over him, a gentle smile spread on Axl's face. As he drifted off, he managed to say one more thing before sleep claimed him.

| Once X finished the lullaby, the elf looked down at the now slumbering boy and smiled softly. He kissed him softly on the forehead again and created a new flute--this one made of pure crystal--and set it next to his head on the pillow. "Love you too, Axl," he said before standing and turning off the light.
((I absolutely ADORE that song. The only ones that come close to matching it are Lugia's Song and Tears of Life.))
