| X groaned in pain, his breathing shallow and rapid. The scan revealed that one of the connections in the energy router was damaged and the energy in his reserves was surging into his core, overloading it. The energy had to be released somehow or his core would blow out again.

| Zero bit his lip trying to think of how to help. The first thing that popped into his head probably wasn't the best idea, but it would have to do. He grabbed a connector cable before hooking it up to himself and then X. Having a new way out, the energy went to him instead and shocked him terribly.

| X winced and opened his eyes slightly, noting that his energy was starting to regulate itself. He looked over at Zero, trying to figure out what was going on. Surprisingly the connector cable didn't just transfer energy. It allowed him to access Zero's thoughts. He could barely read it, but he could talk to him.

| Zero wasn't all that surprised when X spoke to him through the cable. He'd done that himself a few times to talk to rookies who'd been too damaged to wake up quickly. Although, he felt like his insides were melting.

| X weakly grabbed the cable where it connected to himself and removed it, sparing Zero the pain of having energy flooding his core. He felt extremely weak, even more than when he'd been near-fatally injured, but he didn't want to put Zero in danger. The cable's connections were melted beyond use anyway.

| Zero was somewhat thankful that he'd managed to get rid of enough of the excess energy to where X wouldn't be in danger, but he felt terrible. He ended up just laying on his side in front of the couch after curling into a ball.

| X slid off the couch and curled up next to Zero, wrapping his arms loosely around the blonde in a somewhat halfhearted attempt to comfort him. He was heavily overheated; X attempted to draw some of the heat into himself so Zero could cool down.

| X wound up shifting to curl up as close as he could to Zero, absorbing most of the heat radiating off the blonde. Oddly, his systems could still function at a high temperature such as this, the only problem he'd have would be moving. At that moment he didn't care about how uncomfortable he felt. He was more worried about his friend.

| After a moment, Zero was forced into standby mode to preserve himself. His systems couldn't take so much internal heat and he went lax, leaning back against X slightly though he wasn't aware of it.

| When Zero went into standby mode X almost panicked, but upon realizing that it was just a self-preservation reflex he relaxed a bit. He set his internal fans to their highest setting in an attempt to vent the hot air from his body and cool the surrounding air at the same time.

| X pulled up a holo screen and got to work rerouting everything and repairing Zero's systems so he would be at least a little better off. It was hard to focus as he was overheating, but he got most of it done with no trouble.

| Seconds after X had finished his work, the holo screen became littered with error messages. Some he couldn't even read, but others that he could basically said that some of the wires had melted and were causing damage.
