"Now!" Axl cried as he 'spat' the two out and quickly transformed into the crawfish reploid. Opening the claws wide, he spun at high velocities as he sped on a slight angle through the soft sand, ripping through it with ease.

Zero quickly breathed some oxygen into X so that the cyber elf could hold his breath a little longer and quickly swam to the surface while pulling X along with him. He kept an eye on X to make sure that the brunette didn't need to breathe again before they got to the surface.

X clung to Zero as tight as he could and kept his eyes shut, listening for Zero's pulse. The sound kept his mind occupied so he wasn't really thinking about holding his breath, which was helpful, as it felt like they were still very far from the surface. His ears popped from the pressure, causing him to flinch.

Breaking though the soft sand, the copy reploid found himself in a another cave, but this one was smaller and luckily had an air pocket up near the top. All they had to do was getting X to it and they'd be safe for a while.

Zero quickly swam up to the air pocket after noticing it. "X, here's an air pocket." He said noticing that the cyber elf had closed his eyes and probably wasn't even aware that he was in an air pocket. He wondered just how far away from the surface they were.

X opened his eyes when he heard Axl break through the ground, noting that there was an air pocket above them. He was grateful that Zero was such a good swimmer, as he couldn't hold his breath for much longer. X was coughing and gasping when they reached the air pocket. Though the air was stale and stagnant, it was at least oxygen, which he so desperately needed.

"H-how far a-are we from the surface...?" he managed to croak out. His throat was sore and scratchy from inhaling water earlier.

X kept clinging to Zero, partially out of fear and partially because he wasn't able to stay at the surface on his own. He looked up at the blonde. "S...sorry f-for getting y-you guys into this..." he apologized in an almost pitifully weak tone. It was very doubtful he could hang on for the trip to the surface, just by how his heart was hammering away.

The dolphin was having trouble find any exiting tunnels. It didn't make sense. There was air in the tunnel, so there had to be an exit somewhere. Suddenly, he saw a school of fish and decided to follow them. Hopefully they lead him somewhere and he could get back to the others.

X was starting to have trouble keeping his eyes open at this point. Even though they weren't nearly as deep below the surface as before, the pressure was still hurting his head and disorienting him. He felt like he would pass out at any given moment, and kept sinking a bit. Where was Axl? Had he found a way out yet?

Axl swam a bit away, as he lead the two towards the first air pocket. Each one was at a slightly higher elevation than the last, so that might help X a bit with the pressure issue.

Zero waited until X held his breath before diving into the water and following Axl to the next air pocket. He popped up into it so that X could breathe and hopefully the slow rise would help keep him from getting too bad of decompression sickness. Then again, it probably wouldn't. They might just need to get out of the water as soon as possible.

X clung tightly to Zero when the blonde dove after Axl, clamping his hand over his nose and mouth to prevent himself from accidentally inhaling water before they got to the air pocket. When they got there, X coughed a little and rested his head on Zero's shoulder. His eyes were out of focus and he was lightheaded, and his pulse had gotten to the point where black blotched would form in his vision in beat with it.

Zero waited until X said that he was ready before he would dive back into the water. He had a feeling he was going to have to think of some way to allow X to breathe in case the cyber elf passed out. There was really only two solutions he could think of, and one was out of the question as he didn't have that piece of equipment with him.

X was starting to just stop caring about whether or not he could stay conscious between air pockets anymore. It was rather obvious that he was struggling to stay awake even when he COULD breathe. The gradual process was helping a little, but not much.

Energy pulsed out from Zero and his eyes changed to a dark crimson. Virus Zero made a mask of sorts with his aura and made it continuously have oxygen in it by using up Zero's reserve energy and put it over X's mouth and nose. "Pass out if you'd like." He stated before diving back down into the water while pulling X over where Axl was. Thankfully the mask didn't move at all regardless of what happened.

X didn't bother questioning the virus' actions--he could tell it was the virus by the change in voice and eye color. The fatigue had finally caught up to him, and the brunette wound up losing consciousness, slumping limply against the blonde carrying him--at this point he didn't know if it was the virus or if it was Zero. He was just so tired...

The copy reploid bristled at the change in Zero. He wasn't sure what it was and why his eyes were red, but the mask over X's mouth was a indicator to just shot for the tunnel and the surface. He didn't question and just swam, bypassing the third air pocket before turning roughly 90 degrees upwards into the tunnel.

The virus followed Axl to the surface while pulling X along side him. He ignored Axl for the most part and swam back over to the beach. He did a quick scan to see what was wrong with X, even though it would hurt the brunette it would be better than doing nothing.

X remained unresponsive when the virus scanned him, not even reacting in pain. However, it was rather obvious that he was starting to suffer from decompression sickness. His breathing had become labored and he was coughing quite a bit, his skin was slightly discolored with a blotchy pattern, and he was completely unconscious.

Virus Zero glanced up at Axl. "Take him back into the water about twenty feet down." He ordered while making the 'mask' disappear. He allowed X to breathe the outside air for a moment before transferring a full face mask to him along with a few oxygen tanks. They had no recompression chamber so this would have to do. He waited a few more minutes before putting the mask on X and making the cyber elf breathe pure oxygen before motioning for Axl to take him back out into the water.

Then he reentered the ocean and swam down the desired twenty feet, being mindful of the mask and tank that were attached to the cyber elf. After a moment the virus followed Axl out into the water with the spare oxygen tanks. He didn't trust the redhead to take care of X as he more than likely had no idea what to do. Thankfully he didn't have to breathe and swam over to where they both were before shoving the other oxygen tanks into the sand below them. Unfortunately there was no set time limit to how long X would need to be in the water. He would just need to be watched.

X wound up blacking out again before Axl carried him into the water, and remained that way for a few minutes until the change in pressure surrounding him started to rouse him back to awareness. It no longer felt like his insides were being crushed, and at the same time it didn't feel like he was going to explode. He still felt dizzy and weak, but the nausea was passing, which was a good sign, and his skin was going back to its normal color.

Axl hated this feeling of not knowing what to do and how to properly help. It made him feel weak and useless, something that irritated him to no end. So as X slowly roused back to consciousness, he vowed to himself that he'd study up on his medical knowledge so he'd be prepared for next time.

Virus Zero took immediate notice of X's change in skin tone. It was starting to go back to normal. That was definitely a good sign. He checked on the oxygen tank to make sure it wouldn't run out soon, as they were small tanks, before looking back up at X. He hadn't noticed that the brunette had woken up again until Axl said something.

Virus Zero easily and efficiently switched out the oxygen tanks when the time came managing to keep the water out of the air line. There was more than enough residual oxygen in the mask to cover for the break. It was easy to see that X would be fine if he'd improved this much in such a short amount of time. The blonds attention drifted over to the redhead near him. He'd never seen Axl before, but apparently the 'newer' generation reploids were able to copy the abilities of other reploids and mimic them. He was rather interested in just what Axl could do.

X felt worse now, not physically but psychologically. He had to be a stubborn bull and keep going through that tunnel, and he was also the only one capable of "drowning"--though it wouldn't kill him it still wasn't a pleasant feeling and it would leave him in a coma for a while. Zero found that out in the cavern.

In short, he was too stubborn for his own good and now his friends were stuck helping him because he couldn't help himself.

And knowing X's luck he'd turn back into a merman with no warning, just like when he turned back to normal. THEN what would happen?

Axl shivered as he thought about the eyes Zero now had. They were just plain creepy. Something was nagging at him that something wasn't right with those demonic red eyes, but he couldn't figure out what. And his voice was different, too. He would have asked X what was going on, but the brunette was still out of it, or so he thought.

Instead, he merely tightened his grip a bit on the cyber elf, shaking a bit as he pressed his face into X's shoulder. If only he had more of his memories, he wouldn't be so clueless and confused.

He looked back over at the redhead and did a quick scan of Axl. "Prototype model 005. Final prototype before mass production of new generation reploids. Looks like the prototype was better than the true model." He reeled off information that his programming allowed him to gather. "Virus defenses are rather low though." He commented as new information came in.

X would have growled, but it seemed the mask that the virus made for him was soundproof; his voice wasn't audible at all past it now. And he was still too weak to move, and no doubt Axl wouldn't be able to take the virus on, meaning that if the virus decided to "play" they were both screwed.

I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

No, that wasn't Zero. It couldn't be him. The voice and attitude were wrong, but then who was it and how did he get control of their friend? He didn't know. His memory banks were too spotty to be of any help and it scared him. But X couldn't do anything too stressful right now, so he'd stay despite how scared he felt at the moment.

But his taunt shaking body revealed that he'd bolt at a moment's notice.
