"Okay...maybe a cheetah..."

X examined his reflection in a mirror as he began experimenting with some of his pseudo-transformations. He couldn't change his entire being like Axl, only certain aspects, but he was getting the hang of it, and becoming partially feline had gotten the brunette curious as to what other forms he could use. This particular one included cheetah ears, a tail, and claws. And an uncontrollable desire to go running as fast as he could. He quickly scrapped that one.

X tapped his chin in thought. What form could he try next? He did like bunnies quite a bit, and Easter had just passed...

Poing!

X looked up as a set of bunny ears popped up on his head, then back as he realized he had a poofy tail. He giggled and literally HOPPED to his bed, then started bouncing around on it. This was fun.

While he bounced, he started thinking about other forms to experiment with. Maybe next I'll try a bird of some sort...ooh! Or a kangaroo! Yeah, hopping is so fun! Or...hm...I do want to go swimming with Zero at the lake one day...maybe a fish? Or a merman, that seems more acce--

He didn't get to complete that thought as he suddenly realized he couldn't move his legs, and without warning...

THUD!! "OW!"

...he toppled off the bed.

Zero was walking back to his room from training and had a towel wrapped around his neck. When he spotted Axl in front of X's room however he became rather curious. "Something wrong?" He asked while going over to the red head. He hadn't heard the loud thud since he'd been going through system messages.

X let out a groan and rubbed his head, which he bonked on the dresser next to the bed. "Ow..." he groaned.

When he heard Axl knock on the door, he moved to get up...only to find that he couldn't get himself upright. "Come in," he called, unable to get up at the moment.

The copy reploid, clad in a simple grey T-shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers, turned to answer Zero, but paused when he heard X's approval to enter his room. Opening the door wide so both him and the blonde could see in the room, he blinked in surprise and mild shock at the sight in front of him.

For Zero and Axl, the first thing they would notice upon entering X's room was that the brunette had fallen off the side of the bed opposite of the door, and all that was in view was a tail.

Not a feline one, or even a mammalian tail for that matter.

A fish tail. With shiny, almost metallic blue scales and somewhat frilly fins.

"Um...can someone help me up please?"

"Do you need to be in water?" Zero asked wondering if him being a merman now affected how he interacted with his surroundings. If so they'd have to figure out if X needed freshwater or saltwater. That would be such a pain.

X managed to keep himself upright by propping himself up with his hands. "I feel fine, actually," he replied. "I don't feel different at all. Other than this thing." He tried to move his new tail, which he found to be rather difficult; although the fins looked rather light and wispy, they were heavy, and because the tail itself was longer than his legs the signals from his brain weren't quite cooperating.

And he had a dorsal fin right on his butt, which felt kind of strange.

"Either way, I don't think I need water," he continued. "It's just...weird."

"I really don't know," admitted X when Zero asked if he was able to change back. "I hit my head pretty hard and really can't think straight about changing back. I'll try later."

He noticed that Axl wanted to touch his tail. He gave a small shrug to let him know it was okay. He just hoped it didn't tickle or anything; the scales felt kind of funny dry.

Axl blushed at the comment, feeling like he was just worrying too much. But when he looked at the scales again, he thought of something. "Papa, just because you don't need to breathe water or be in water to survive doesn't mean that your scaly, fish-like tail can do the same. Zero grimaced and put X in the bathtub. "I told you, you need to be in water." He said with slight annoyance. The few times X wouldn't listen to him he tended to be right. He pulled up a holo screen and set up an emergency transfer channel in case X needed saltwater instead.

X hadn't realized how lightheaded he was getting until Axl spoke up. He pressed his hand to his forehead with his bangs poking out from between his fingers. His face was unusually pale, save for what seemed to be a somewhat feverish pink tint on his cheeks. His breathing had become a bit shallow, and he was starting to feel pretty rough.

When Zero set X in the tub of water, the brunette hissed in pain. The water felt like it was burning him, but whether it was because it was too warm or because it wasn't saltwater, he wasn't sure. And it didn't help much, other than getting his tail wet. He still could barely breathe.

Zero transferred them to the beach and they all landed in the water. It was deep as the water went up to the middle of his chest. So Axl might end up underwater since he was shorter. He was worried, but there wasn't much else that could go wrong so he wasn't too scared.

X landed on the bottom of the ocean at their little shallow spot, having passed out from not being able to breathe. The brunette remained unresponsive even after they arrived at the beach, though his condition was visibly improving and he was breathing better.

Zero dropped down into the water and looked around. He noticed X at the bottom a few feet away. He swam over to the brunette and was relieved to see he was breathing better even though he was unconscious. He resurfaced a moment later and looked at Axl. "He's doing better now. Although I think he passed out from not breathing."

X eventually woke back up shortly after Zero checked on him. Every part of his mind told him that he needed to get to the surface immediately, as he was underwater, but yet his body told him he was fine. Even though he was breathing water, it felt no different than breathing regular air. He sat up and glanced around, noting that the scales on his tail were now gleaming brightly in the water.

Axl 'clicked' again and swam towards the surface, jumping out, then back in. He swam in circles again before turning into a shark. Going in a wide circle around the two, he slowly closes the width, humming the Jaws theme song with a cheeky shark smile.

Zero swam over to Axl and wrestled with the somewhat large shark. It was obvious that he could somewhat breathe underwater. Only somewhat because his systems couldn't take too much salt and would need to be purged every so often to ensure they didn't get clogged or anything like that. Thankfully that didn't take a whole lot of energy since it was just a small operation of removing salt.

X couldn't help chuckling at how outright goofy Axl was acting. First a cute little turtle, than a cuddly dolphin, and now a shark with a sense of humor. It was enough to make the elf-turned-merman laugh. To his surprise, his voice was perfectly clear, as if he wasn't even in water. Now if he could learn to swim that would make his situation a little better.

X now wished he knew how to swim so he could join in on the fun. He flicked his tail in annoyance at the fact, but then blinked when he noticed how easy it was to move his tail in the water as opposed to earlier. The elf pushed himself off of the bottom of the water and "kicked" over toward his friends, smiling when he realized that he could swim now.

From what he remembered about sharks, Axl knew that they needed to continue swimming forward or they'll drown. So to solve that problem and continue roughhousing with Zero, he morphed into a octopus, wrapping his tentacles around the blonde. "You won against Jaws, so how will you deal with this?"

X had to make sure he didn't wind up sinking when he was swimming, since he could move forward effortlessly but wasn't quite used to staying afloat, but other than that he was okay. The elf looked up toward Zero when he spoke, chuckling nervously. "I kinda have to," he admitted, realizing it was the first time he actually spoke since they got to the ocean.

Finally giving Zero a break, the octopus released him with a chuckle before morphing into a seal, swimming around the two in a figure eight. "Took me a while to get use to it, too. Even ask Iris. When we were working on renaming some of the animal files, I nearly crashed into so many things getting the hang of it."

Zero swam over to X after he was freed and tried to figure out if he could help the brunette learn how to swim. He was coming up short since he had to do something completely different to keep himself afloat. Underwater at least, if he was at the surface he could just relax like a human. "You'll get used to it, it just takes practice. At least you don't have to worry about drowning now." He commented remembering that X actually had to breathe as a cyber elf. That was probably why X had never learned how to swim.

X's tongue wound up sticking out comically again while he tried to stay afloat. It involved positioning himself as if he was standing and flicking the end of his tail up and down. His arms stuck out a bit like an acrobat for balance. Zero was right though; at least the brunette didn't have to worry about drowning while he learned to swim, but he did have to worry about suffocating out of the water.

Zero chuckled and shook his head. Partially at X and partially at Axl. He purged his systems of the salt when it began to get a little harder to breathe. It immediately cleared everything up so that he didn't have to worry about it for probably another ten minutes. He made himself heavy enough to where he would sink to the bottom, which wasn't that far.

I'm not arrogant, but I don't make mistakes. I just cut down my enemies.

X eventually got the hang of swimming on his own, and was able to swim without even really thinking about it. "This feels weird," he commented, looking at his tail yet again. The scales now had a brilliant luster to them, almost like jewels. He looked over at Axl and laughed a little at his rather large new form, then over at Zero, who sunk. "You alright?" he asked.

I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.
