| "Shops it is, then," said X with a smile. The waitress came around with the bill, which X looked at. To his surprise there was something scribbled onto the bottom, which read "Favorite Customer Discount" and discounted a good deal of the price. Probably because they came there so often. X paid for their lunch as promised, rather surprised that they got a discount.

A store selling stuffed animals caught his eye. "Hey," he called to Zero, stopping in front of the store, "I'm gonna go in here for a sec. I'll catch up later, okay?"

| X walked into the store to see if there was something Anna would like. He eventually spotted it: a huge, fluffy white bunny that looked like it was the same height as little Anna. A worker gladly got the bunny down for him and he bought it, carrying it out in a large shopping-mall bag and walking around to find Zero.

| Zero was standing out on the street talking on his communicator. He'd figured out how to hack into it and make it a sort of cell phone so people could reach him even if they didn't have a communicator themselves. Although X couldn't hear what exactly he was saying he had a somewhat serious expression, as if he was scolding someone. However, within the next few moments he laughed. The blue reploid probably heard him say goodbye before he switched off his communicator.

Not even a half-second after he reached into the bag--not even getting the time to pull the bunny out to show his friend--his communicator went off. A Maverick attack.

| Zero heaved a sigh and grumbled something under his breath before transferring their purchases to his room at the base. That way no one would mess with them or they wouldn't get lost. "It's nearby, let's get going." He said to X motioning behind him. It was a few miles away from the city, but it was approaching fast.
He got in contact with the navigators with this own communicator. "We need some information on the Maverick." He told them before taking off in the direction it was coming from. He didn't want to fight it in the middle of the city. There was no telling how bad that would be.

| One of the navigators quickly pulled up some intel for Zero and relayed it to him. "It seems to be an upgrade Eregion," she stated. "Larger, with two heads. Be careful out there."
X froze up at the description. A two headed Eregion...?! Why did it feel like he'd seen that once before?!

He would take whatever punishment was deemed fit for his actions later. This Maverick had to be stopped first. He didn't want what he'd seen to come true.

| X was still having trouble catching up to Zero. His breathing was heavy from his systems overclocking themselves so he could catch up. It wasn't very good that he wasn't able to keep pace with someone.
He eventually managed to get to the area with the Maverick but had to pause to catch his breath; his systems were overheated.

| By the time X had gotten there Zero was already damaged somewhat. His forearm armor was cracked and broken off in some places, but he was otherwise perfectly fine. He had managed to climb up onto one of the Eregions head's and fired off a fully charged shot into it's head.
Unfortunately it didn't seem to phase the Maverick much. It roared and thrashed about trying to get Zero off it.

| X charged up a buster shot and fired it directly into the maw of the other head, blasting clean through it. It still didn't falter and thrashed about wildly in an attempt to throw Zero off, succeeding after bucking forward.

| Almost immediately after making sure the Maverick was dead, X's core abruptly stopped, just for a few seconds. The Reploid equivalent of a heart attack. X stumbled and fell to his hands and knees, shaking slightly. It seemed he wasn't fully repaired; his core couldn't handle the energy output needed to use a charge shot.

| "I-I'm fine..." stammered X in a rather shaky voice. His core hurt a bit now. "Just...not fully healed yet..."
His core stopped again, this time for a little longer than the first time. X seized up, then slumped against Zero before his core started working again. He managed to run a quick diagnostic and figured out what was wrong. The upgrade Zero had given him was missing and he'd had to draw power from his core to use the charge shot, and since it was a new core the change in energy screwed him up.

| X managed to make it over to his recharge pod but didn't get a chance to get in. His core stopped once again, sparking in his chest. He sagged to the ground without a sound, eyes going blank. The energy imbalance was causing a good deal of damage.

| Zero cursed and put X in the pod. He switched the energy that went to power his systems from his core to the energy coming from the pod that way he wouldn't have to worry about X's core giving out again. It would also give him enough time to figure out exactly what was wrong.

| X remained unresponsive for several minutes as the pod ran a full system diagnostic on him. His core was functioning again, but the message that came up told Zero that it wouldn't stay like that.
CORE ENERGY UNSTABLE. RISK FOR TOTAL SHUTDOWN: HIGH.
ENERGY REROUTE REQUIRED.
When Zero and the medics replaced X's core, they left out the router upgrade Zero had given him, which helped regulate the flow of energy in his body. If it wasn't replaced soon his core would cease functioning altogether.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| Zero had made a schematic of the upgrade he'd made for X thankfully and managed to make it again within six minutes. It wouldn't be completely perfect, but he would be enough to keep X stable enough for him to create a better one. He put the upgrade where it went and waited to see if it would work.

| X stirred slightly when the router was placed where it belonged, but didn't wake up. He'd gone into sleep mode after his core started functioning again. The display on the pod changed.

| Zero heaved a sigh of partial relief and partial exhaustion. He got to work on making a replacement part for the less than perfect upgrade he'd thrown together. It wouldn't last very long which made it that much more important to make a better one. He kept an eye on X while he worked and managed to ignore his damaged arms. They were starting to hurt, but not enough to get him to stop working.

| X remained in something like a cross between standby and sleep mode while Zero worked. The recharge pod kept tabs on him and made sure to alarm Zero in the event that his energy levels started to fluctuate again. There was no need, thankfully.
