| X silently started typing on the holo screen, not bothering to get up from how he was laying, still cuddled up close to Zero. If the virus decided to come out and attack, he would be in the most vulnerable spot, as well as the most convenient for being strangled--which he assumed was the virus' favorite way of trying to kill him.
The data seemed to be okay, as far as he could tell. He skimmed the text quickly, not noticing if there were any minor substitutions that could change the whole scan.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| Zero yawned and pulled X a little closer before nuzzling the brunette's hair. He was careful not to get in the cyber elf's way though. Everything looked normal. A message popped up a moment later however.
Emotional files damaged. Recommend manual browse.
Normally it was hard for files like that to get damaged. Normally it was memories or the entire CPU. Zero wasn't paying attention to the screen and didn't even notice the message.

| X smiled faintly when Zero pulled him a bit closer. The action seemed to give the brunette hope that he was really there.
When a new message popped up on the holo screen, however, he became confused. Those files were almost impossible to tamper with.
Puzzled, the brunette accessed the files himself, wondering what he would find.

| The screen highlighted the file with X's name to tell the brunette that was the one that was damaged. It seemed like a strange file to be damaged. Then again it was strange that something was wrong with it in the first place.

| X's brow furrowed in confusion. He could never really understand the more detailed workings of Zero's programming, least of all his emotions, so when the file named after the brunette was highlighted, he was dumbstruck.
Confused, X opened said file.
A mess of characters and symbols popped up onto the screen. X had no idea what any of it meant. He looked up at Zero in confusion.

| Zero felt X move to look up at him and he opened one of his eyes. He looked at the brunette before glancing at the screen. Why was X in his emotion files? He knew the cyber elf couldn't read any of it. Maybe the scan told him to. He glanced over what it said and grumbled before typing in a key sequence. Another message popped up.
Defrag of emotion files not recommended. Proceed?
It took him a moment to figure out what it said allowing X the time to question him if the brunette wanted.

| "Apparently while I was in stasis my systems combined some of mine and the virus' files. Normally they're not together." Zero explained groggily. He still felt terrible, but a little better than before. Maybe that explained the strange switching between the two of them when the virus first appeared. Since it seemed that some of the files had already been combined for some reason.

| Now X was a little afraid. Combining Zero and the virus' files was NOT something he wanted to hear, for good reason. They were currently in the emotion files that explained how Zero felt about X. Zero loved X. The virus loved to TORTURE X. If those were mixed up, then he wouldn't know if Zero would suddenly try to hurt him.

| Zero was a little glad he hadn't started a defrag on his emotion files yet. He wanted to know what other files had been combined. "Can you remember symbols X?" He asked not trusting himself to do so. Even though he could read what it said there was a specific string that wasn't really anything. But he was still so out of it he might not notice it even when he wouldn't be able to read it. Sometimes he did that when he was awake and aware, there was no telling how bad it would be now.
Luckily they wouldn't have to go searching through each and every file. He could just do a search to find it within each file.

| "Remember this string of symbols." Zero said before showing X where it started and where it ended. It was thirteen characters long. "Whenever you know it, just press this button and type it in." He stated pointing to the button that would pull up the search function. He found it a little strange that the search function keyboard was in symbols as well. But it was a good thing for X. Otherwise it would be rather hard to insert the symbols.

| "A-alright." X took a few moments to carefully memorize the string of symbols. It only took about twenty seconds to fully memorize it. Once he did, he pulled up the search and typed it in. He wondered what would come up, as he didn't know what symbols corresponded to what parts of his friend's files, and he was confused as to why Zero chose that specific line.

| Zero cursed and flopped backwards on the bed while rubbing his face when he saw everything that came up. Great. This would take a while. Surprisingly the files weren't in symbols. It seemed that only happened when you looked through the file itself.

| It didn't take much to add up what that string of coding was. Just by what popped up, he knew that it was the virus itself. He didn't need to decipher files--or even access them for that matter--to know what it was.
The emotion file was edited to turn Zero violent and sadistic toward X when the virus came out.
The skills file was edited to enhance Zero's fighting capability and alter his style.
The reasoning file was set to basically turn him Maverick.
The armor file, self-explanatory.
Eye color was also self-explanatory, as it was the key change in his appearance that explained that the virus had taken control.
But why was his core listed?

A few moments later, the information came back. However, something was very wrong. Even though X couldn't understand anything in Zero's files, he knew that this wasn't just data.

He was a little surprised. He'd never been able to find the actual file that was the virus.

X's spirits immediately lifted. They'd tracked down the virus. And with it tracked down...there was a chance that they could finally delete it. "Zero...I think now we can get rid of it..." he said, his voice at a whisper. He couldn't believe it. All they had to do was delete that one file, and the virus would be gone.

| Zero could tell that X was really hopeful, however he didn't think it would be so easy. Something was bound to go wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to try. "Try searching for the root file. That way we don't have to worry about possibly messing up anything else." He said propping himself up with his arm and resting his head on his hand. It was more than obvious he wasn't as excited as X. It was mostly because he was quite the skeptic when it came to the virus.

| X ran another search, this time using "Mav.exe" as the search query. Multiple files came up, several of which were linked into Zero's other files, but one stood out: MavVirZW.exe. "Is this it?" he asked, his hopes still high. If this was it, then deleting it should get rid of the virus. He just hoped he wouldn't accidentally execute it or anger it.

There was enough pressure to prevent him from speaking, but not enough to actually choke him. X tried to pry the blonde's hand away.

| X yelped in fear when Zero picked him up by the front of his robe. When did he change back into them? Oh, right, he can alter his form at will. He probably changed back into them in his sleep.
X couldn't reach the floor, so he frantically tried to kick Zero in the chest and stomach. He was lying. This wasn't Zero. Not in the least. This was just a virus trying to act like Zero. A virus that needed to be destroyed.

| X let out a grunt of pain as the back of his head cracked sharply against the wall. His halo wavered slightly; it seemed to indicate his current state of mind, and at the moment it was foggy.
When the virus crouched down in front of him, X instinctively tried to scoot back, only to find that his back was pressed against the wall. But when he heard Zero speak, he paused. That...didn't sound like the virus. Was that Zero?

| X was hesitant to speak. Or, rather hesitant to ask the question he wanted to ask. "A...are you...my Zero...?" he asked, his voice at just above a whisper. He prayed that the real Zero--HIS Zero--was fighting against the virus, but he knew it probably wasn't that simple. The virus hadn't tried to attack him again, so maybe there was a glimmer of hope.

| X didn't bother trying to move Zero's hand away. He would just pin the brunette's hands down and shift his hold to pin him by the throat. It was a familiar pattern that seemed to repeat every time the virus reared its ugly head.
He was loathe to admit it, but Zero was right. The virus was a part of Zero. It always has been.

| X looked up at Zero in shock, frozen for a moment in disbelief. From his position on the floor, looking up at the holo screen from the underside of it, the text looked backwards, but he could see what the virus was planning.
Acting as fast as his still-shaking body would allow, he swung one leg around in an attempt to sweep Zero's legs out from under him. The motion of him tripping would allow X a brief moment to access the holo screen himself. He would immediately delete the execution file when that happened.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| Zero wasn't expecting X to try and sweep his legs out from under him, so it succeeded. He landed hard on his back with a grunt. The holo screen had stayed where it was in the air. He hadn't thought to connect it to his wrist.

| X was on his feet in a heartbeat, typing as fast as he could on the holo screen. He only had a few seconds at best before Zero recovered and tried to stop him, and in that few seconds he had erased "Set to Primary" and keyed in "Delete". He hadn't hit the enter key yet, though.
I wish I could avoid violence...but if I did, this world wouldn't be able to live in peace. So I will fight for this world, to protect humans and Reploids alike.

| Zero growled. He couldn't reach X from where he was but he could still communicate with the system. "Command Prompt, Export!" He refused to be deleted and the other programs wouldn't kick in fast enough to override the delete command.
WARNING: EXPORT OF PROGRAM MAVVIRZW.EXE INITIATED.
CONNECTING TO BASE GENERATORS.
WARNING: MORE ENERGY NEEDED.
CONNECTING TO BACK UP GENERATORS.
PULLING ALL POWER.
WARNING: BLACKOUT IMMINENT.
Zero groaned in pain and a few moments later the power went out. The room was illuminated only by the holo screen.
After a few minutes Virus Zero sat up and rubbed his head, his crimson eyes glowing softly in the darkness. He looked around and noticed the blond on the ground next to him. He grinned. It had worked.

| X cursed under his breath. He hadn't realized that it was possible to use vocal commands to use command prompts. If he had, he would have deleted the virus the instant he had the chance.
When Zero collapsed, X was kneeling next to him in an instant, trying to make sure he was okay. The power cutting out seconds later barely fazed him.
That is, until he saw the red eyes glowing in the darkness of his room.

| "X~" Virus Zero purred as he stood up. Circuit lines could be seen on his face, neck, and arms. It seemed the shirt was covering up more circuits. They pulsed faintly giving off a purple hue. "Come here X, I won't hurt you." He said as if he were talking to a scared animal.
Zero rubbed his head and looked around, confused by the darkness. When he saw the purple lines out of the corner of his eyes he wanted to slam his head against the floor. Although it felt like he'd already done that.

| Great. Just freaking great.
The virus was standing right in front of him, no longer having to speak through Zero.
X was now completely paralyzed from a mix of shock, fear, and disbelief. He had no idea that the virus was even capable of taking on a physical form. The last time he'd encountered a virus that manifested itself in Zero's image was the Nightmare Virus after the fall of Eurasia.
At least back then, he had no qualms about fighting it.
But now, as a being made of pure data and energy, he was in danger.

| Virus Zero stalked over to X. The only reason the brunette even knew where he was, was because of his eyes and markings. His intents weren't clear, but it was sure to be something bad.
Zero stood up and got between X and the virus. He had no idea how the virus managed to gain an actual form, but he didn't care. He just wanted to kill it.

| The brunette couldn't do anything but just sit there, trembling with fear. The virus was even more terrifying like this, able to act completely on its own without risk of harming its host unless it chose to.
When Zero stepped between the two, X relaxed only slightly. If the virus got angry with Zero, the blonde would likely be killed trying to protect him. He wanted to tell Zero to run.

| "Get out of the way." Virus Zero growled focused more on Zero now than X. He would definitely be able to get X now. This would be fun now that he didn't have to worry about harming the other blond.
Zero shook his head. "You're not harming him." He stated with a grimace. He didn't know what the virus planned to do and that bothered him greatly. He usually had at least a little indication of what was going through Virus Zero's head.

| Virus Zero walked over to Zero and shut off the holo screen. The room was now pitch black. "Well.. I guess I'll just get you." He grinned and then kissed the blond in front of him. From where X was he couldn't tell what was going on.
Zero froze. What the hell was the virus doing? His mind shut down from thinking he was having a nightmare. Or that he was dead and went straight to hell. He was just glad X couldn't see what was happening.
That is until the lights decided to kick back on moments later.
